Any other tips?

Thanks!

If you can, test them out in lowlight conditions first. If it shifts the color spectrum pretty heavily into the red, you'll want to take note of that.

Depends on what you want to use it for, to be honest. I have a prosumer camera I like, but it is bulky, making it worse for trips than a nice pocket sized camera most of the time.

I would say at least 7 MP, nice screen, and a decent optical zoom of at least x5. Digital zoom sucks, for the record. A lot of people think the higher MP the better the camera, but that isn;t always so. My prosumer one is 7.1 MP, and it takes great pics.

I would recommend a camera that takes AA or AAA batteries rather than a dedicated/camera specific rechargeable battery.

AA/AAA batteries are cheap and can be found everywhere. Plus, you can pick them up anywhere and they are ridiculously cheap.

I can't tell you how many thousands of family pictures we DON'T have because of a dead [camera specific] battery. [Mad]

Amazon Gold Box has a very decent one at a very decent price today.
