How are you spending it? My Christmas Eve is consisting of wrapping last minute gifts, taking care of the kind of stuff parents do on Christmas Eve, and relaxing in between bouts of wrapping by watching the Dr. Who marathon on BBC America and sipping an adult beverage. My hubby is working tonight so I will see him tomorrow.
Then I plan to spend the day with my kids and my hubby, playing with new toys, and cherishing my family. This year, above all years, I am convinced of the inconsequential nature of material things and an appreciation for what matters.
My wish for my hatrack friends is that each of you will be in the company this holiday season of people you love, and that you will appreciate the time you have with them. Sending you joy and love from my home to yours.

Opening some presents at home, then going about two miles down the road to spend the afternoon with my brother-in-law and wife's family.

Merry Christmas! The BB clan spent the night at my parent's house, and we plan on spending the day opening presents, eating breakfast together, and just enjoying each other's company. Nothing out of the ordinary, but always an enjoyable combination.

I'll be getting ready for work as soon as my daughter gets out of the shower. Why does she like to take her shower when she should know I need to get ready for work?
On the presents front, it's a pretty meager Christmas, but we'll make up for it when I get my tax refund. It's not as bad as it sounds - one daughter got Cataclysm as an early gift, and I even took her to the midnight release, and the other daughter is getting a graphics tablet that is on back order. So no presents under the tree that we didn't put up - again - but they still get something.
Another way to look at it - I have a job, we have a roof over our heads with heat and water and electricity (there's a family of 7 in central Iowa threatened with eviction from a storage shed they are living in because of the lack of some of those things), my car is still running (and I'm still thankful for the new tires I got in August thanks to my father-in-law). We had a very low-key Christmas financially. My husband's job experienced a 25% cut in pay, so that hurt. My mom gave the Kinect to the whole family. Having experienced loss this year, we wanted to focus on family anyway.
Turns out that the best present has been a white Christmas! We have snow on the ground and it's beautiful. First Christmas snowfall in this part of Alabama in recorded history!

Even though I work retail, my bosses gave me this weekend off so I could fly to Houston to be with my family. I flew in on Thursday night and I fly back on Monday night which means I missed Christmas Eve and the dreaded day-after-Christmas-returns. That, in and of itself, is a Christmas miracle.
My mom's mom who was in town for my brother's graduation last weekend is also around this weekend and will be flying back home on Monday as well. Its pretty rare that we get to see her so its been a nice treat.
I knew what I was getting for the most part. A Nook Color was the big gift from my parents, as well as a blow-dryer since mine died recently and a blu-ray copy of "Last Chance to See." One of my brothers got me "Prisoner of Azkaban" (the blu-ray Collector's Edition) while the other surprised me with some gorgeous topaz earrings with matching necklace. Its the first year that my brothers have done their own Christmas shopping rather than just signing their names on whatever my parents pick out. They got some help financially but I really love their choices. I've been running around all day in my pjs and fancy jewelry.
My favorite part has been watching other people open the gifts I got for them. My dad was especially surprised. I got him a copy of "Mr Holland's Opus" on dvd and he choked up when he opened it. Its one of his favorites and it was a big part of my childhood, the two of us watching it together. I also got him this father/son memoir based around his favorite baseball team, the St. Louis Cardinals. I heard him bragging about that gift to all of his sisters and brothers as he made his Christmas calls.
Otherwise, its a weekend of movies and food. My dad and brother saw "True Grit" with me last night. My mom and grandma and I are seeing "Tangled" today. And tomorrow, my mom and my other brother and I are seeing "Deathly Hallows" on the nearby XD screen. And tonight is also the annual Lord of the Rings RISK battle. Four to six hours of geekdom with my brothers and dad while my mom and grandma watch Christmas movies.

For christmas this year I physically barred the door to prevent my relatives from seeing Little Fockers.

I got some clothes that dont fit, Jay and Silent Bob cold case statues and a brown Firefly shirt of Wash's dinosaurs, and something that looks like a loofa but is shaped like a cleaning brush.
Of the gifts I gave out, my favorite was my copy of Albert Camus's The Stranger to a stranger while working the graveyard shift. But my cousin was pretty happy about her white rabbit shirt from thinkgeek, close second.
