I did it. I took a book that was not an Amazon purchase, placed it into the Kindle App on the Iphone, and it syncs with the copy I have on my actual Kindle.

My Iphone is NOT jailbroken.

After much Googling I stumbled on these three links which took me through the process if anyone here is interested.

The first time I did it the Kindle App crashed. But I just deleted it and reinstalled it from the App Store, now it works perfectly.

Looks like Kindle has a new IOS update that is compatible with Itunes file sharing. Now all you need is the mobi2mobi program to add the Amazon ASIN number to the file.
