So Armoth's a cappella group made the wonderful Candlelight song this Hannukah.

I was thinking about it and wondering if you guys were planning on doing another one for Passover, as one idea.

It's also a Jewish holiday with great name recognition and doing so for Hannukah was "persumeh nas" (wonderful PR for miracle?) which appreciate as a Jew.

I just saw this article on an Israeli website. Those of you who can read Hebrew will see that instead of writing "Maccabeats" in Hebrew, they wrote "Maccabeast".

Hah! It also explains why we haven't heard from Armoth lately, neh? [Wink]

If you have to download the video to get it to play properly (I did), their bit starts just after 13:40, immediately after the Mona Lisa piece. And a fair percentage is in English. (Including Armoth explaining his personal reasons for wanting to be interviewed by Channel 10 Israel.)

How did you download it? I couldn't get it to play more than a minute or so.

RealPlayer download.

Is that a separate app?

Hmm. I don't think so. I think it was something I enabled the last time I updated RealPlayer.

I got 3 min of it, mostly the Maccabeats.

Their bit only was about 3-4 minutes.

Haha. Hey guys,

yea, I've been out lately - We were just in Israel this past week and it was like Candlelight day 1 for the Israeli media. Did a bunch of interviews for TV, radio, and newspapers there. We also performed at the knesset, and our concert was attended by Shimon Peres, the president of Israel.

Performing in Israel was one of the most amazing experiences I have ever had in my entire life. The country is so proud and exited, and we couldn't go more than 5 feet on the streets of Jerusalem without someone recognizing us and asking for a picture.

Phanto - yea, people expect us to come out with a Passover song. Not sure about it yet. I don't know that we want to limit ourselves to being a holiday group, but yea - there are new video ideas in the works.

Here is a clip from the news in Israel (for Hebrew speakers) and also a clip from our concert in Israel:

The second video is surreal. I love the Bieber-like squeals from the ladies in the audience.

Loved the audience chiming in on the chorus in the second video (Maccabeats live in Jerusalem!).

Very, very cool.

That's insane. Armoth, I hope you're having fun with all this.

I don't think a Passover song will limit you to holidays. It does put you in a niche at first, but there's no reason you can't move beyond that when the inspiration strikes.

Purim seems a more logical choice than Pesach, for a number of reasons.

Many more people recognize/understand Pesach/Passover than Purim, though, imo.

If Candlelight were done on the holiday of Shavuoth, as an extreme example, I highly doubt it would have been the success it has.

Which is actually one of the reasons I think a Purim song is more important.

I have no idea what Purim is, but my guess is that doing a Passover song first would be better for solidifying your group's mainstream appeal, and then doing a Purim song next year (after doing a few random non-holiday song in the meantime) would help it reach a broader audience.

Except this is art we're talking about, so the bottom line is "whatever inspiration strikes you."

I'll tell you, it's very very scary, considering the tremendous expectations people have of us. I agree with Rivka that a Purim song is more important and probably lends itself to a little more levity than a Passover song, but we'll see.

I think "whenever inspiration strikes" is a good way to go, and hopefully we can put out a bunch of videos so that if one or two flop, it will just be one among many.

But yea, I'm definitely having fun with all this. I wish I could concentrate all my efforts on this, but school is starting again - I need to make sure to manage my time so that I can give a good effort to both things. But as one of my mentors said: "Once you are bitten by the bug you can never go back" - This experience has been fulfilling on so many levels, artistically, creatively, religiously, etc. that I definitely want to invest a lot more in it.

I agree with this. I suspect y'all will not only have more fun that way, your songs/videos will be more successful. Part of Candlelight's appeal IS the fact that y'all clearly had fun making it.

And thus begins the descent into the sanity-compromising paradox that is being an artist.
