Kwea -

Went to use the email you sent me and it said that the invitation had expired. Can you resend it?

Sure! Shouldn't have expired though......

That link worked fine and I'm in.

Would it be possible to bump the draft back a day to Sunday? It looks like I'm going to have a few drafts that Sunday, and I'd honestly rather do them all at once.

More important, there's a faculty BBQ at the department chair's house next Saturday that I'll be attending, and I'd really like to make the draft! My opinion of Yahoo's autodraft is quite poor.

Posted by Stone_Wolf_ (Member # 8299) on :

I can't find a search field under leagues, and it requires a league id# to join directly.

Posted by Stone_Wolf_ (Member # 8299) on :

League ID# = 609447

League id # is 609447, password is Hatrack.

I can bump the draft back to that Sunday, and if the time needs adjusted web can do that too, probably. I work at 6am now, so I can't do it too late though.

Does Sunday work for everyone else?

Okay, so I don't want to be an alarmist, but if the power goes out due to the hurricane, I won't be able to live draft tomorrow night (or until it comes back on). I'll get my players pre-ranked, but I just want to let people know that if I don't show up - it's not because I forgot or I hate you or I don't want to participate.

It's the hurricane.

(Also, I'm pretty sure that in 2009, I advised people not to pick Favre. Sucked to be me that year. [Wink] )

I thought we moved it to Sunday! Guess not...

Posted by Kwea (Member # 2199) on :

OK, after some thought I decided to move this years draft to the following Sunday at 7 pm EST. Sorry if this isn't convient for everyone, but too many people are in danger of losing power this weekend to risk it. I can tweak the time if necessary, but the date is as late as I can set it and still be on a weekend.

Set your draft order particularily if you can't make it. That way Yahoo will auto-select your next availible choice when it is your draft turn.

Anyone with an issue can post here, or send me an email. I emailed the entire league just now.

Additionally, we can't run a league with an odd number of teams, so we need at LEAST one more team.......anyone else interested?

Thanks!

Rob

Ugh, I just realized I have two drafts tonight and haven't spent a single second researching draft stuff.

Last year I spent hours reading background information, and ended up doing awesome in both my leagues for the first half...and terrible in the second half. Maybe I'll just wing it this year.

Bump bto remind everyone our draft is tomorrow night...

Posted by Lyrhawn (Member # 7039) on :

Hooray! Exciting.

There are no rule changes from last year right? We aren't suddenly doing a Two-QB or PPR league right?

Posted by Lyrhawn (Member # 7039) on :

Actually, in taking a peek at the rules, I do have a rule change suggestion I'd like to throw out to everyone.

Instead of 3 wideouts, can we make the third spot a WR/RB spot? Or I'd even be willing to play with a 2QB league, I've never done that before.

Posted by Stone_Wolf_ (Member # 8299) on :

According to the league settings we are doing:

QB, WR, WR, WR, RB, RB, TE, K, D, D, D, DB, DB, DL, DL, BN, BN, BN, BN, BN, BN, BN, BN

Which is (as far as I can tell, because they don't just tell you, silly)

Quarterback
Wide Receiver x3
Running Back x2
Tight End
Kicker
Defensive (player?) x3
Defensive Back x2
Defensive Lineman x2
Bench x8

Posted by Stone_Wolf_ (Member # 8299) on :

What is the order of the draft?

Posted by Lyrhawn (Member # 7039) on :

D usually means linebacker, but I believe you can put any defensive player you want in that position.

I'd still prefer not to have three wideouts, though, we're also playing with four fewer teams this year, which means that third spot won't be quite the bottom of the barrel it was last year.

Posted by Carrie (Member # 394) on :

I'm going to be out tonight, but my rankings are done and ready to rock. Have fun with the live draft - wish I could be there!

Posted by Lyrhawn (Member # 7039) on :

Congrats to the Ketchups. Yahoo says you had the bestest draft ever.

Posted by Kwea (Member # 2199) on :

This freaking sucks. My autodraft did fine for me until round 8. I then spent the next 3 rounds picking a kicker and two defensive players who AREN'T EVEN FREAKING AVAILABLE THIS SEASON.

I tried for about an hour to get on, but no luck. I am so freaking pissed I don't even want to play this season.

Posted by Lyrhawn (Member # 7039) on :

A couple of us had trouble getting in, but thankfully it worked at the last minute for me. I wish it would have given us more than 10 min to get in and fix any problems we might have had.

Looking at your lineup though, I don't think you have it that bad. QB and both RBs are top notch. TE is what, the third overall TE, with a great backup. Your wideouts are all okay, not great, but see what you can do throughout the year on the waiver wire and with trades. Your D could use some work, but honestly, I think you can make up a lot of that ground just by hitting the guys no one drafted and swapping them out. A LOT of good stuff got left on the table.

It sucks not to have been there for the draft, but your team is MORE than salvageable.

EDIT: Kwea, I sent you a message on Facebook. Let me know if you didn't get it.

What is the "Waiver" field, with 1-10 ranking on the league page?

Posted by Lyrhawn (Member # 7039) on :

After the last game of the week, there's a brief pause of a day or so, and then all the players who are free agents, not owned by a team in the fantasy league, are up for grabs. If someone like Adrian Peterson gets injured and his backup is a free agent, there will be a scramble to get him because he's a great pickup.

So people put their moves in before the waivers open up. First on the waiver wire list gets first crack at pickups, and so on. It's designed so that the worst teams get the better waiver ranking, so they can get better.

Posted by Stone_Wolf_ (Member # 8299) on :

Hmmm...I'm the 4th worst team huh? We shall see!

Posted by Lyrhawn (Member # 7039) on :

No.

At the moment it's pegged to draft order. So, first pick has the 10th pick on the waiver wire, and so on.

In the future it will be determined by your win-loss record.

Posted by Stone_Wolf_ (Member # 8299) on :

Then I know at least one person I'll be picking after...*wink*

Posted by Stone_Wolf_ (Member # 8299) on :

Why no points for first downs?

Posted by Lyrhawn (Member # 7039) on :

How would you allocate the points?

Posted by Stone_Wolf_ (Member # 8299) on :

1 point for rushing, receiving or throwing a first down.

Posted by Kwea (Member # 2199) on :

Never did it that way, or played in another league that did it that way.

Posted by Stone_Wolf_ (Member # 8299) on :

It is my first time...I was discussing my team with my uncle, and he mentioned first downs, and I said my league doesn't score points for first down and he was all "Hubba wa?" so I asked why...four posts up...

Which brings us back to doe, a dear, a female dear...

Posted by Carrie (Member # 394) on :

Yeah, I've never even heard of a league scoring first downs. Talk about giving too much value to fullbacks...

Posted by Stone_Wolf_ (Member # 8299) on :

Or in other words, I wasn't suggesting...just wondering...I have zero suggestions this year...next year I might have something to say, but this year is a learning experience for me (and my go to excuse for losing).

Posted by Lyrhawn (Member # 7039) on :

So long as you lose this week, I'm inclined to accept any excuse you care to offer. [Smile]

I'll stick with Rodgers...

I'm having a hard time deciding if I want start James Jones and Donald Driver or Johny Knox, Santana Moss.

One way every catch is double good (with the possibility of double bad) as I have Rodgers, but Knox and Moss are both looking to have a big year.

We shall see.

Posted by Lyrhawn (Member # 7039) on :

Don't even bother with Donald Driver. Greg Jennings is the star, Jermichael Finley is right behind him. And they have a couple of other guys who look to be taking whatevers left of the looks Rogers has to throw around. Plus the ground game might eat some of that up if they really give the rock to Grant and Sparks a decent amount.

Honestly I'd consider benching Knox until you really figure out what he'll be doing there. Williams is ahead of him on the depth chart for some strange reason. Simply put, Knox isn't a starter right now. You'd almost be better off picking up Devin Hester and playing him. At least then you get guaranteed return yardage. Or hell, pick up Jordy Nelson instead of Donald Driver, it's the same deal.

At the very least, don't play both Jones and Driver. You want to waste two of your wideout spots on two guys from the same team, neither of whom are the number one guy on the depth chart? Driver is probably number two on their chart...but they're kind of like the Saints. Rogers might throw primarily to one guy or maybe two, but he'll throw to anyone, and there are a ton of options.

For the record, Driver is number two in name only, because of his long track record of being dependable. Nelson and/or Jones are going to be the more productive WRs - aside from Jennings, of course, and most likely Finley.

Williams is on his way out...and Knox on the way in...I'm very comfortable with him on my bench ready to step up into a superstar. I had considered Hester, but he is dropping balls in preseason and Harvin will get me plenty on the return game.

Yeah. And "more productive" is really a relative thing on that team. Too many options. Every week would be a crap shoot.

Stone Wolf -

I'm not sure if Nelson is really worth trading for. I think you're betting off playing your best team this week, and hitting the waiver wire next week, if that's your concern.

Honestly? With who you have there, I think you play Santana Moss for sure. Then flip a coin on the other three. The upside I see for Knox is that even though he might only catch one or two...if Devin Hester is really second on the depth chart, they might give Knox some of his kickoff returns, which could mean some bonus yards. He's better than Driver. Jones is a coin flip. Really all three of them are a coin flip.

I was trying for a QB/WR/TE combo pack...although if I had been thinking that way during the draft I wouldn't have had a problem, but it was my first draft and I didn't really know what I was doing.

The learning process continues.

Everyone planning on watching the games live tomorrow? I'll probably be on Yahoo's stat tracker keeping an eye on things, and it has a chat function, essentially turning our league into a little chat room, if anyone wants to join me there.

I'm thinking about upgrading my cable so I can watch any game, because it also comes with NHL Center Ice, and I think I might die if I have to go all year without the Red Wings.

Posted by Lyrhawn (Member # 7039) on :

Brandon Llyod and Jerod Mayo have to come up big for me to come back. There's a chance...but I think I favor Stone Wolf on this one.

Lol....

I am now leading, and still have people playing and to play tomorrow.

I made a last second substitution, and put Dez Bryant back into my starting linr. He has 14 points so far, in the first quarter.

Posted by Lyrhawn (Member # 7039) on :

You have to love the scoring changes they make during the night. I went to bed down 17 points and woke up down 23! What the hell kind of scoring changes added 6 points to Stone Wolf's score? I know sometimes they add the occasional solo tackle for a point here or there, but this sucks.

I was actually looking forward to some kind of dramatic comeback win tonight, but there's no way Brandon Lloyd and Jerod Mayo can make up that difference alone unless they both put up relatively monster numbers. Looks like the Losers are starting off the season as actual losers. Welcome to the league Stone Wolf. [Smile]

Posted by Stone_Wolf_ (Member # 8299) on :

Well, Mayo got 5 pts, it is possible that Lloyd will pick up the other...17.37...

ETA: What, no extra points for field goals over 60 yards?! [Big Grin] This week is a good week.

Now don't everyone draft my wavers before I can get to them ya hear!

Posted by Stone_Wolf_ (Member # 8299) on :

I simply do not understand the wavier order. It isn't a reverse of the draft order, it isn't the revere of the standings, it isn't the reverse of fantasy points. I have no clue how they determine it.

Posted by Lyrhawn (Member # 7039) on :

My bad, I forgot this league works a little differently. As I understand it, it was initially set to the inverse of the draft over, but, once you make a waiver move, you drop to the bottom of the list. So people who make more moves stay at the bottom and people who make fewer moves gravitate toward the top. Becomes a matter of timing.

Posted by Stone_Wolf_ (Member # 8299) on :

Ahhhh, thanks!

Posted by Stone_Wolf_ (Member # 8299) on :

Wait, that can't be right...the Bombs were dead last in the draft...then first to sign a waiver (the only one they ever signed) and now they are 7th, picking behind the Barnstormers who have signed 6...who are also before me with 4 waiver picks...

It's okay...somethings are better off as a mystery.

Posted by Carrie (Member # 394) on :

How this worked:

After the draft, I (The Bombs) got first crack at the waivers and picked up a dude, and went to the bottom of the waiver list. Then, since neither Vash nor Stripling went to waivers, it went to you, Stone_Wolf_, and you went to the bottom, leaving me in ninth position, and so on. Brill is last, because he got his waivers in before Week 1 started - which is why the Barnstormers are still in sixth position, because he picked up dudes in the middle of Week 1.

Tomorrow, when waivers open again, everything will shuffle.

Posted by Kwea (Member # 2199) on :

Yep. What she said. After 2 days, the players become Free Agents, and avier priority only matter if someone releases a player and 2 peple from other teams want him.

Posted by Stone_Wolf_ (Member # 8299) on :

Still not grokking it, but thanks for the explains. I'll reread later when I have less on my mind and I'm sure it will click home.

Posted by Kwea (Member # 2199) on :

Worst score gets first pick while players are on waivers. When that team picks up someone off of waivers, they drop to the back of the line. Once all players have been free for 2-3 days, they become Free Agents. ANYONE, regardless of wavier priority, can pick up a FA wihtout a wait.

Enjoy.

Posted by Stone_Wolf_ (Member # 8299) on :

Thanks...I'm getting it now.

I'm surprised that Ben Tate is still available...considering that Foster and Ward are still hurt and Tate has got skills...my prediction is a big week 2 for him.

15.6 fantasy points in week 1 (which is still less then my two starting RBs and my backup).

Posted by Stone_Wolf_ (Member # 8299) on :

Not my second backup...I'll take him...

Posted by Lyrhawn (Member # 7039) on :

I considered grabbing him just for the heck of it, or to deny him to someone else, but I'm fairly satisfied with my lineup. If we had a flex position, I probably would have grabbed him.

This week I'm in the unenviable position of actually having to choose between Matt Stafford and Brees. I'm 99% stuck on Brees, because he's a Top 4 right? But Stafford is certainly coming on strong this year. Plus I'm a Lions fan. Ugh.

Posted by Carrie (Member # 394) on :

I suggest you go with whoever gives you less points. [Razz]

Posted by Lyrhawn (Member # 7039) on :

This should really be an interesting weekend. We're very evenly matched, assuming my two top wideouts don't sit with injuries, in which case I'm just screwed.

Either Stafford or Brees will put up a lot of points, there's no BAD choice there, per se, but Brees is more of a sure thing to at least produce something.

Posted by Stone_Wolf_ (Member # 8299) on :

Brees!

I can't decide who to bench, I think all four of these guys are going to have huge games:

Santana Moss
Percy Harvin
Jacoby Jones
Randall Cobb

I'm tempted to bench Moss, because the other three are looking to return kicks and catch and get a decent amount of targets w2. But Moss is likely to put up some great points as well...shooot!

Posted by Stone_Wolf_ (Member # 8299) on :

Tony Gonzalez or Fred Davis? Can't. Decide. Help me oh B 1, you are my only hope!

Posted by Lyrhawn (Member # 7039) on :

I have a feeling I'm going to wish I'd played Stafford over Brees after all. Oy.

Posted by Stone_Wolf_ (Member # 8299) on :

Posted by Stone_Wolf_ (Member # 8299) on :

Posted by Lyrhawn (Member # 7039) on :

Are we not allowed to make waiver pickups for guys who haven't played yet?

They just announced that Brandon Lloyd is out for the week, and I wanted to pick up Davonne Bess at the last minute to replace him. Otherwise I'm just screwed.

Posted by Stone_Wolf_ (Member # 8299) on :

So I think the Stapling Warriors have me...I'm up by 14.32 but his QB (Matt Ryan) has yet to play (we both have one D player who haven't played).

Posted by Lyrhawn (Member # 7039) on :

I haven't checked the score in a bit, but I'm pretty sure I got crushed.

On the bright side, I won in both my other leagues!

Edit to add: I hope!

Posted by Carrie (Member # 394) on :

Well, Lyr, Nicks and Hixon have to make up - at minimum - 41 points right now. This may change, since I've got DeSean Jackson and LeSean McCoy going right now.

[Razz]

Posted by Lyrhawn (Member # 7039) on :

Hixon is more likely to lose points than gain them, I got a little hosed by a last minute injury there, unless Nicks is out...but that hardly helps me. [Frown]

Nah, I'm done this week. Went up against a powerhouse and lost. Good game.

A couple of monster defensive days with Tom Brady throwing an absurd number of yards (again) and Vincent Jackson almost literally running amok downfield does provide a crapload of points.

I was worried going into this game. Good game, Lyr!

It was a banner day. Your defense put up just monster numbers across the board.

I have to say, when I started to see Vjax go crazy, I was actually cheering because I have him in my pay league, and I was way behind. Vaulted me ahead to victory there. It was only later I realized I was playing AGAINST him in both my other leagues. You crushed me. I still beat the other guy. [Smile]

And if I ever hear anyone use the phrase "team to beat" in reference to my team again, I'll end you. I swear it's the kiss of death. I'm 0-2. [Frown]

I'm so confused...I thought I had already lost, but now I'm up again by half a point (with Stripling Warriors still having one defensive player to play tonight). When I went to bed last night I was down by 2 points but whamo, I wake up and I'm up.

They do scoring fixes and changes overnight and add the corrections while you sleep.

So the football fairy came while I was sleeping and slipped some false hope under my pillow?

Posted by Lyrhawn (Member # 7039) on :

That's what the football fairy does.

Damn her winged hide!

His. Haven't you sen the commercals?

Posted by Lyrhawn (Member # 7039) on :

They're pretty funny. I like the ones with the tiny coach too.

Had I started Moss or Gonzo I would have won...took a big risk on the rook out of GB and he did not deliver! I lost by less then 3 points.

Good game, Jim-Me!

Yep, it was... Eli just couldn't put enough points up to pull me through.

Why on earth is Felix Jones on the can't cut list?

Posted by Stone_Wolf_ (Member # 8299) on :

It's because the football gods hate you.

Posted by Lyrhawn (Member # 7039) on :

Probably because he has a lock on most of the touches. I guess they don't base things on skill.

To stat the season my ENTIRE lineup was on the can't cut list, and half of them didn't really deserve it.

Yahoo always has a far more dramatic can't cut list than ESPN does.

True... I have a team with Romo,Fitzgerald, Calvin Johnson, Miles Austin, Ray Rice, Matt Forte, Antonio Gates, and the Baltimore Defense.

They are 0-2.

It's six man league, but still! I have the second most points in the league, but am 0-2

Stupid Vikings!

First half lead:

Game 1: 10
Game 2: 17
Game 3: 20

Never count out Detroit. =) We're used to coming back from behind. Way behind.

Lions and Tigers...oh my.

StatTracker not working for anyone else?

Also, I don't blame the Lion's skill...I blame the Vikings...well, being the Vikings.

Well gee thanks!

See my first post.

See my second post!

The Viks might be good at coughing it up, but the Lions are a juggernaut this year. Give us SOME credit!

Zero points in the first half? The Lions are not as god awful as in past years, they are quite decent in fact, but happen to be in a very competitive division, but I'm sorry to say that the deciding factor (considering the first half) was the Vikes, and in classic Vikings style we drew our gun, aimed and shot ourselves right in the foot.

My thoughts are summed up starting at the 1:20 mark.

Posted by Stone_Wolf_ (Member # 8299) on :

Dude! That was belabored!

Posted by Lyrhawn (Member # 7039) on :

Best example I could think of to show a backhanded show of appreciation.

Wow! 49 points from ARod, 17 points from Brady. Did not see that coming.

Ugh, what a terrible week across the board for all my teams.

I thought I was on to something in my other league when I picked up Stevan Ridley, but my wideouts played like garbage. Oh well, there's always next week.

Posted by Stone_Wolf_ (Member # 8299) on :

Wow, the start of the bye weeks...could prove to be interesting...I will keep my eyes open for the good players you guys have to drop.

Posted by Stone_Wolf_ (Member # 8299) on :

Lyr...26.6 points from AP in the half...nice!

Posted by Stone_Wolf_ (Member # 8299) on :

Lyrhawn, sorry about your loss, it was SO close...maybe corrections will win the day. At least your Lion's are still undefeated...and hey, my Viks finally got a W.

Posted by Lyrhawn (Member # 7039) on :

Alas. Maybe the score correcting gods will give it to me in the morning, but either way, I'm MUCH more pleased about the Lions than I am sad about losing. [Smile]

Now if I can just get the Tigers to win a game. Detroit's big cats are on the prowl.

Wow...great game. just not for me. Who would have thought Rice, Crosby AND Welker would disappear in the semi's?

Posted by Lyrhawn (Member # 7039) on :

Two close games there! I always feel better when I lose knowing there's almost no guys I could have played from my bench to make it better. Just wasn't in the cards, but I put up a fight! Brees picked my team up on his back and carried us, but couldn't quite get us there.

On the bright side, I won my pay league game, and I'm on my way to the finals! If I had to choose, I think would rather win the pay league game. [Smile]

That sucked. No other word for it.

Posted by Stone_Wolf_ (Member # 8299) on :

Want to talk about suck? How about the #3 RB breaking his ankle in the first quarter of his game and you go from first place by three games to having to fight for fifth by a margin of 2.5 points?

Posted by Kwea (Member # 2199) on :

There were still plenty of quality backs left, you know. [Big Grin]

I had 4 of them. [Big Grin]

Posted by Stone_Wolf_ (Member # 8299) on :

Yea, I had a great one on my bench, but since Murray played (and got me 3 pts) before breaking his ankle, I was stuck with him.

Posted by Kwea (Member # 2199) on :

I hear ya...I had Torry and Lynch on my bench.... either one would have helped me to the finals.

Looks like Stripling Warriors would have beaten me this week anyways though. [Big Grin]

Congrats to the Stripling Warriors!
