So the story is that a school in Florida is going to use a thumb scanner system to take roll in classes to replace the oh-so ineffective system of... "here."

The write up.

With so many professional educators on the board I was curious to see the responses.

They should all have to prick their fingers and submit a small blood sample that can be DNA tested.

After all, what if someone simply cuts off their thumb and gives it to a classmate to feign attendance? Or they use one of those snazzy thinfilm things you put over your finger to copy it? No, this is far too easily fooled.

I don't know if this is actually true, but I'm betting, in a bizarre twist of fate, the company that makes these scanners has strong ties to the people making the decision about them being used.

Heck, maybe they're like Diebold machines, in which case, the kids have already figured out how to hack them.
