Tonight, for American audiences, Frozen Planet began on Discovery Channel. It's from the same people that did Blue Planet, Planet Earth and most recently, Life. Halfway through the first episode, they haven't lost any of their magic. Nature is still the best "reality" programming out there.

You can easily see why it took them more than three years and millions of dollars to catch these images. Spectacular. I can't wait for the "making of" series.

The stuff with the glaciers makes me want to take a vacation in Greenland.

There are bits here and there that look like recycled footage from Planet Earth, but they are small, and I guess you have to expect that between Planet Earth and Life, both of which did an hour each in the colder climes, there's going to be a little bit of overlap.

The one thing I'll say is that I'm a little over penguins. Done to death. Frozen Planet had the smarts to avoid Emperor Penguins.

It's pretty damn amazing.

Yeah, although that back and forth bit with the seal was pretty awesome. I love that penguins will act defeated and then when the seal puts them down so as to get a better angle to eat, WHOOP!

Also, can I just say it's a good thing killer whales don't eat people. Whatever that reason may be. They are potentially so much more horrifying than sharks. It's one of my proofs that there is a merciful God out there.

They're repeating it a few times over the next week, and then the next new episode is next Sunday.

The hunting methods of the Killer Whales was incredibly impressive. Their teamwork is deadly amazing. I've seen dolphin teams do some pretty impressive stuff, and orcas were even cooler.

We just finished the series in New Zealand. Stunning. It was a must see for us each week.
