So, a few years ago This American Life did this experiment where they broadcasted a live show to theaters around the country. They're doing another one this Thursday night. It was a really really fun experience last time, and I imagine this time will be great as well. From the website:

quote:
The show will feature stories by Ira Glass, writers David Sedaris and David Rakoff, comic Tig Notaro and Snap Judgment host Glynn Washington, plus live music by OK Go. It'll also include things you could never do on the radio, like a new short film by Mike Birbiglia, dance by Monica Bill Barnes & Company, original animation, projected illustration and more. Plus special surprise guests.
You should go, it's a really fun time!

We've got tickets! I'm so excited. There's also an app you're supposed to download to your phone/iPod to be part of the show with OK Go. You can just search This American Life in the app store and it's the one with OK Go in the title. This is going to be awesome!

Downloading the app as I type this!

I'm done with finals today, so this will be a fun way to celebrate.

I recently listened to the recording of the first live show they did, and it was great. It sounds like what they are planning for this one won't translate so well to the podcast, though.

I'm sure it will end up being fine, those guys are smart, I'm sure they have both in mind. For instance, the live show in the theater was longer than the podcast you heard. So they cut out the stuff that didn't translate at all, leaving a regular length podcast to air.

It was amazing. We laughed our heads off at Tig Notaro's sketch, which I believe will still make it to the podcast.

And there's a segment that definitely can't make the podcast but you can watch online - Mike Birbiglia's hilarious short film.

I'm with you Annie, I thought Tig's sketch was my favorite of the night.

And yes, everyone should check out that Mike Birbiglia film. Such a brilliant concept. And executed really well too.
