My brother (30 yo in good health, heavy exerciser) is on his way to urgent care after peeing some visible blood. No prostate cancer history in the fam, but still... Trying not to freak out.

Prostate cancer is very rare in men under 40 and still quite uncommon under 50 years old.

I can think of at least 14 causes of blood in the urine, plus the possibility it is not even blood (but another red substance). It's great he gets this checked out quickly. The odds are far and away that it isn't due to something of lasting significance if treated properly.

Heck, beets can make you pee purple. [Smile] As someone without any real medical experience but plenty of experience getting older and seeing weird stuff happen to my body, I wouldn't worry too much yet.

Madder root can color urine red. So can beets, blackberries, rhubarb, and some laxatives. It could be a UTI or kidney stones.

Best wishes and prayers!

It turned out fine. Thanks, guys! CT, that helped a lot (but I couldn't post yesterday from the computer I was on).

But I used WebMD for a diagnosis and it said it could be cancer!

Ha, fair enough, but it's not like you need WebMD to be scared of peeing blood. I was probably extra sensitized to it because it happened to a friend of my dad's about a year ago, and he was dead 3 months later.

I had something similar 3 or so years ago. EDIT: Also in my early 30s. Couldn't find anything wrong (besides the obvious). Went away in about a week, and has yet to return.
