My wife and I just purchased a home and it uses a gas dryer. Our dryer is electric. It seems I need to order a gas dryer because our local retailers don't carry gas dryers on the floor. They are just not that popular here.
Since I am ordering one anyway, I think I should try to get one online.
I am thinking of just getting the Amana 6.5 cu. ft. dryer from Amazon for 457.00.
I am hoping someone on Hatrack can point me to an online deal because it is Cyber Monday. Are their coupon codes I could use or a better site to shop at? Or should I just stick to ordering one through Home Depot so I don't have to pay insane shipping charges?

I think I missed something. If you have a functioning electric dryer, why not just use that? Having a gas hookup for a dryer doesn't mean you are required to use it.

If he doesn't have the proper connection for it he would have to pay an electrician to make the changes. It would cost less than buying a new gas dryer and save the annoyance of trying to sell a perfectly good electric one.

Yeah, I only have a regular electrical outlet. Wouldn't it cost more to convert that to a the type a dryer would use? I know nothing of home repair, so I am not sure of what type of outlet I have and I what I need.
I am just assuming it would cost more to run the correct wires to the outlet to upgrade it. Just call me Mister Precision when it comes to trying to talk about home repairs.

For most houses, no. It's not a matter of just converting an outlet though - they have to actually run new wires from your breaker box and install a new breaker. It should be a relatively easy job for an electrician. Definitely much less than the cost of a new dryer.

The cost of that job is going to rely on what's in the way of the path the wires would take. If there's not much in the way (and assuming your dryer and electrical panel are both in the basement, there shouldn't be), it should be a very easy job. It would be something you might be able to do yourself, but given your inexperience, I'd recommending going with a professional.

A wall outlet allows for 110V, your dryer should require 220V. Its a wiring issue. I have very little first hand experience with electrician work. I don't like it when something ethereal can kill me, I prefer simple things like gravity and motorized saws.
Work the local review sites for contractors and the like, the hardware is easily found and inexpensive but you will be paying for the time of a professional who will not electrocute you. The work should cost far less than buying a whole new dryer.

I'll say, as someone who recently bought a house that needed and continues to need a lot of work, Angie's List has been a great resource to find reputable people to work on it. They have periodic sales on membership for a pretty good discount too. It definitely pays for itself in finding good people.

On the flip side, given the falling price of gas, I wonder if it wouldn't be cheaper in the long run to use a gas versus electric dryer based on the price of power vs. gas.

If it is the only thing running gas, no.
If the stove and heating is gas, maybe. Then he has to try get back his initial investment by selling his perfectly fine but used electric dryer.
