of every kind, private, group, governmental.

Introducing Michael Ciampi
quote:
Dr. Michael Ciampi took a step this spring that many of his fellow physicians would describe as radical.

The family physician stopped accepting all forms of health insurance...

Awesome!

Third party payment has been one large contributor to skyrocketing medical prices.

I am really curious to see how this turns out.

Here are his prices.

ETA:
quote:
Ciampi expects more doctors will follow suit. Some may choose to run “concierge practices” in which patients pay to keep a doctor on retainer, he said.
...

“If more doctors were able to do this, that would be real health care reform,” he said. “That’s when we’d see the cost of medicine truly go down.”

Cool, can that guy administer chemo if I ever need it?

Why would you want a family doctor to give you chemo?

Don't judge, I'm thinking about having the pathologist administer my anesthesia.

I imagine if you knew you were fully responsible for the bill (and are used to having insurance), you'd be a lot more careful about getting every bit of value that you could out of the visit. You'd also be a lot less likely to schedule a visit unless you really needed it.

Which is a bad thing. Regular doctor's visits and overall health are highly correlated, or at least that's my understanding.

Perhaps this gives some sense of what things actually might cost without the price fixing, but just to be clear, it's not an answer. It's still prohibitively expensive for many people.
