re: the last paragraph

is the entire article supposed to be a joke or a big fakeout or what

Oh, just notice that? I would never use the word crazy, so I'll call it . . . very creative? In a Fox News kind of way.

Read it a few weeks ago. I don't even know what to think of it. It's incredibly bizarre - maybe he's just rambling and having a bit of fun? I don't know. I think maybe it's just a thought exercise in "what's the worst possible future I can imagine" and he decided to publish it for whatever reason.

I think he's trolling to try to drive traffic to what's left of the Rhino Times.

Troll fakeouts like this are a bad idea when what you have written before it make it so that without the "Just kidding!" at the end most people legitimately have no reason to immediately doubt that you are seriously elucidating your actual crazy position.

Like in this article it's not like the masochists who still read his articles are going "what is this, he's godwinning obama where did that come from it's so unlike him" they're going "godwinning obama again, what a surprise"

I think someone took Tom Clancy and OSC's Empire and put them in a blender. This is what they got.

And I think he thinks it's totally plausible. And I bet if polled, 40% of Americans would think it wasn't just plausible but likely.

For people who live inside the crazypants echo chamber.

I tried, but every time I started reading it I heard this in my head:

Daffy Duck's Crazy Laugh

I interpreted the "just kidding" as an ironic underscore. He meant he wasn't kidding.

Yeah, I think that's the purpose of the 'just kidding' as well.

It truly is quite bizarre. I'm actually more worried about Canada than the US in terms of democracy because it seems to be that actually more worrying things have happened there.

However, I don't think Harper is Hitler, or even close. I think he's just a business-oriented Conservative who doesn't really see why things matter outside of that framework-- and I don't just meant that he cuts everything that doesn't make money, I mean he seems to also lack the ability to inspire the people who might make him money--for example. But I don't think he's evil, I think he just lacks imagination.

However, I think this is pretty harmful, because it turns out creating and sharing information is something that doesn't make money right away. Goodbye statistics! It's hard to tell what is going on where there are no statistics on it.

I mean, if I were pressed for an answer, I would say that he wanted to say a lot of very inflammatory things because he really enjoys doing that, and because he thinks it makes him appear clever for some reason, and he realized, at some point, that this was going to make him look like a crazy person.

If you don't think it's clever, then you don't "get it," and he can just dismiss you as one of those "leftalibanies" that are persecuting him.

Also I think there is a possibility that he is just ****ing with the film studio, who probably asked him something like: "hey, Scott, listen, don't say crazy things for the next 10 months or so. Great, thanks." Fail.
