Starring Ian Richardson as Francis Urquhart (scheming politician) and Susannah Harker as the dogged young journalist who seeks the truth.

Seriously, the ending of this series left me STUNNED. And it's from 1990!

I can't get its baroque-like credits theme out of my head:

Netflix brought both the original as well as a new Netflix produced US version. I don't know how much it deviates from the original, but I have heard good things about it.

I love the new one (haven't seen the old stuff). Kevin Spacey does an amazing job.

I liked the 13 episode Kevin Spacy version well enough -- enough to watch the whole thing. And I'll watch the next batch of episodes which are currently in production. Spacey and Robin Wright are excellent in it.

But the Ian Richardson version is sublime and Ian Richardson is majestic. It's the performance of a lifetime. His asides to the camera make Spacey's look clunky in comparison. And the series is more tightly written.

The uk series is divided into three parts, 4 episodes in length -- House of Cards, To Play The King, and The Final Cut. I'm on the second one now.

The honey-dripped southern accent is a bit much, particularly as *nobody* else in the entire series has one. Otherwise I really like the series.
