How old should my son be before I introduce Star Wars to him for maximum enjoyment?

He will be 3 1/2 by the time the new one comes out, which seems too young in my opinion. What did you other parents do for yours?

My younger son had seen it by that age, because his older brother wanted to. They're both huge fans.

I don't think that's too young. Our second-youngest loved it before he was even two. He would sing the Star Wars theme sometimes. I grew up watching them and don't even remember the first time I saw them.

I watched it with my (then) 3 year old nephew last Christmas. He loved it. I think Empire Strikes Back may be a little dark/difficult to understand for him, but A New Hope? It's perfect for that age.

It would be so cool to have him watch the first movie, then have to wait a while to get to see the empire strikes back, then wait a while to see return of the jedi, with him wondering what's going to happen next omg how will they save han and all that.

You can also watch the CG animated series, both clone wars and rebels, which are geared fairly well to younger audiences. It just depends on how okay you are with regular depictions of combat and action. Unfortunately he is probably just a little too old for the prequels by now.

He only needs to watch The Phanton Menace and you can just summarize the rest for him.

In the prequels, you have to keep your eye on the incredibly devious sith that is pulling everyone's strings to his own ends.

And that character is (and I'm not kidding about this) Jar Jar Binks.

You guys keep listing him with the wrong name. He is Darth Jar Jar.
