I am pretty sure most - if not all - of you know this silly game.

In case you do not:
Usually each player is assigned a historical or famous person and has to figure out who he/she is only by asking "Yes" or "No" questions to gather clues about "their" name.

Whenever I played this I was frustrated with the limited range of possibilities, for when you are stuck with "Homer Simpson", "Indiana Jones", "Britney Spears" and "Donald Duck", this is not quite as interesting as it could be.

Here, I believe, this could be really fun.

Modified to forum use, rules are as follows:
"Head" player chooses a somebody he knows enough about to answer most questions. Everybody else can ask questions which will then be answered by the current head player as truthfully as possible using only Yes or No. If the answer is not known, the answer can be "Is not known." e.g. Q: Do you believe time travel is possible? and I am answering as, say, Werner Forssmann.

Whoever first guesses correctly will - upon approval of correct guess - automatically become the new head player and assume responsibility by reiterating "Who am I?" to signal beginning of a new round.

I had to google the spelling of some of the names, but I knew about all of them off the top of my head. I learned about the Kangxi Emperor in a college history class. (he's sort of the Henry III of China's history) I read a Landmark book about Hong Xiuquan when I was a kid (it covered 19th century and early 20th century China and the end of the Qing dynasty in general) - BB's hint about "how the person saw things" jogged my memory about him and his revolt, but I had to google his name.

If there was some confusion with my answer to Panacea's earlier questions: I was born between 0 degrees and 90 degrees E in the eastern hemisphere - i.e, the western half of the eastern hemisphere. (Mongolia is almost entirely east of 90 degrees E, though I understand a lot of Ghengis Khan's empire was in the western half which is why I'm specifying "born" now)

Oh man, that's brilliant. I love that they're rapping about infantry tactics while showing them obliquely in the background. Like when Shaka talks about being "gored by the horns of the Zulu", they show his "bull horn" formation deploying - two flanks of fast-moving shock troops whose job it was to rapidly encircle the enemy before their commander had a chance to adjust. (As the British later learned when a heavily armed regiment with gatling guns, semi-automatic rifles, and artillery pieces but still fighting with Napoleonic Wars-era tactics got almost totally annihilated by a bunch of naked "savages" with frikking wooden spears and cow-hide shields)

I became a really big fan on Shaka Zulu after learning more about his military campaigns in infantry school when I was in the Marines, and realizing how much of our advanced infantry tactics and training techniques were either invented or inspired by him. (Or imitated and adapted by British officers who fought his descendants) He is, IMO, one of the greatest tacticians of all time, and a pretty spectacular example of how discipline, training, and effective small unit tactics and leadership can give a huge advantage, even against technologically superior enemies. I think if he had been born a couple hundred years earlier, then we would talk about the Zulu Empire in school as one of the great civilizations of the world rather than just another British conquest. [Frown]

So, I'll take questions now.

Bridget of York?

Posted by Dogbreath (Member # 11879) on :

Nope.

(I'm someone probably a great deal more famous/have more name recognition than Bridget of York - though that's always hard to determine with historical figures)

Posted by Dogbreath (Member # 11879) on :

(At least, I'm in a lot more books and movies than Bridget of York is)

A hint to help move this along:

I'm a historical figure who has been featured in numerous books, movies, and plays. One writer who wrote about me was William Shakespeare.

Is your name the title of the Shakespearean book you are mentioned in?

No.

Are you the main character?

No. [Smile]

Posted by PanaceaSanans (Member # 13395) on :

But you are a historical person, not an imaginary character?

Posted by Dogbreath (Member # 11879) on :

Yes, a real historical character. A pretty important one, too!

Posted by PanaceaSanans (Member # 13395) on :

So, deceased female christian, member of a royal family, was a nun for a few years, not a scientist, not alive in the 20th century, most active in Europe, featured in numerous books, movies, and plays, even by Shakespeare, but he didn't name the book after her or even made her the lead character.

Are you French?

Are you Eleanor of Aquitaine?

Posted by Dogbreath (Member # 11879) on :

Yes! [Big Grin]

Wife of two kings, mother of three kings, and ruler England in my own right as Queen Regent for a decade while Richard was away on his crusade. I'm the seducer of Henry II, the secret ally of Robin Hood, and probably the richest and most influential woman of the middle ages. Katherine Hepburn won the Academy Award for playing me in The Lion in Winter opposite Peter O'Toole, and Glenn Close won the Golden Globe for playing me the 2003 remake. (Opposite Patrick Stewart as Henry II) I'm a character in Shakespeare's King John, as well as Sir Walter Scott's Ivanhoe.

I am also the 19th Great Grandmother of Queen Elizabeth II.

In 1201, after having seen both my husbands and almost all my children die before me, I took the veil as a nun and lived the rest of my days in seclusion at Fontevraud Abbey, where I was buried and can still be seen today.
