“I be crazy too, little buddy, but at least when I be craziest, I be floating all alone in space and the crazy, she float out of me, she soak into the walls, and she don't come out till there be battles and little boys bump into the walls and squish out de crazy.”

[Big Grin]

So, what is your personal chosen form of coping behavior?

Copious reading, browsing and youtube/netflix watching, conversations, busy work, sleeping, playing guitar, playing piano, singing to music, showering, nail-biting, praying, pondering, crying, laughing, hugs, kisses, performing acts of service.

All of those things in various amounts. I resent it when enough of those mechanisms are taken from me for even a short-term amount of time. I wish I didn't.

Healthy coping: connecting with friends, and talking through what's going on with one another (either online or in person). Oh, and exercising, I suppose.

Unhealthy coping: losing myself in fiction or in computer games.

Don't get me wrong--I enjoy both fiction and games when I'm in a good place, too. It's just that when everything becomes too much I can use them in unhealthy ways if I'm not careful.

Healthy coping: calling friends. I will open my phone and go down the list and call every person in it until I stop shaking or trembling or flipping inside. Also, exercise and creating something by either oil painting or sewing.

Unhealthy coping: picking fights, often on the Internet, sometimes in person. Also, overeating and breaking things.

My accomplishments of the last year include both making 10 dresses and getting thrown out of a bar in Times Square for fighting, so both methods are still present.
