When I was a child, the educational things I was allowed to watch and actually really loved were
"Die Sendung mit der Maus" (Mouse TV), e.g. here and here. (You are supposed to guess what they're making before they reveal it.)
"Es war einmal … der Mensch" (Il était une fois… l'Homme), first episode here.
Which educational kid's shows do you know that are also enjoyable to the little ones? Which ones did you watch yourself?

When my oldest son was around 2 we usually watched Discovery Kids with him. The cartoons we watched at this channel were pretty good for kids albeit 90% was boring for adults. Then, DK has started broadcasting: Jakers
I not just started enjoying this show as I really started loving it- even more than my wife or my son. I have even emailed the producers telling how much I had enjoyed the first season of the show and congratulated them and could not avoid asking for more episodes. And they replied me.
