I decided to do it now rather than when I reach 2000, because ...

I graduated from university yesterday!!! I now have a masters diploma in linguistics! This has been a tough time, but I survived, passed all the exams, and have thus completed the "school period" of my life.

Of course, now that it's over, I'm kind of at the crossroads... I know for sure I don't want to be a teacher anymore... not in a public school, at least, and probably not with the kids this age (13-14, that is). During the year I've spent teaching, I learned a lot, and I don't regret my decision to become a teacher. But I also learned this is not something I do with passion and engagement, so I decided to let it go.

Since the European Union will be accepting new members next year, they will be needing translators. They already published a competition, to which I applied right after I got my degree. Who knows, maybe I'll manage to pass the tests... I would at least want to test myself, see how far I can get there. I will also be applying for a 5 month traineeship in the translation service, which would start in March. The downside of this is that I won't be really trying to look for any pernament job until I know for sure about the EU thing. I will be contacting the translator agencies, and maybe giving private lessons of English, but doing this won't really get me a living, which means staying with my parents for at least another half a year, maybe.

It's not that bad - I mean much as I'd like to be all grown up and independant now, it is easier just not to be [Wink] And half a year isn't all that long, considering I spent all the 5 years of my university life living a sheltered life with my parents.

I actually like the way my life is now - I have no obligations, and technically I'm able to choose any path I want to... something not everyone can tell about themselves. I will be starting to make choices which will determin my future - but for now, I'm just going to have a well-earned break, and relax [Smile]

The reason I'm writing this all to you, is that Hatrack has become an important part of my life, too. My parents laugh when I tell them about my online friends...as if Hatrack wasn't real. It is very real to me, though, and I'd like to thank all of you for that. I've been here for over a year now, and I was always enjoying it. I hope you will be there to hear about other great moments in my life [Smile]

::materializes her way out of hiding::

I can't believe it's only been a year, Kama. You seem such a concrete part of Hatrack, if someone had asked I would have said you'd been here much longer.

I'm so glad you've succeeded this far, and I'm excited for you and all of your potential. You're smart as a whip, beautiful and sweet to your core. You'll be extremely successful no matter what you do.

Congratulations, sweetie. [Smile]

Congrats!

It's not a sheltered life. It's just reality in Poland that you depend on your family much longer than you would like to. I wish you all the best and I think that with your qualifications you should get a job that will let you be independent but you know as well as me how hard it is with unemployment nearing 20 %.

Still, Kama: [Cool] [Cool] [Cool] [Cool] [Cool]

Congratulations Kama. We all love you! And if someone on Hatrack denies that fact...we can do away with them quite easily. [Wink]

I am very confused. K.A.M.A. s imaginary parents (or does she mean her original programmers?) laugh when she mentions Hatrack as if we were her imaginary friends? It is like the dream that is dreaming the dreamer or some other such paradox.

At any rate, best of luck to you. If you become a translator you will probably travel to the US as part of your official duties at some point, no? Then perhaps we could confirm your actual existence once and for all.

Congratulations on graduation, Kama! Also, congratulations on realizing now that you definitely don't want to make a career of teaching, instead of realizing it 20 years down the road.

Good luck on the translator thing!

congrats! and good luck.

when is version 3.0 being released? 2.0 just doesn't have the programming power to be competitive in todays market.

I don't think you should care, Strider. You won't be able to afford it anyway [Razz]

Congratulations Kama!

I hope that when I reach 2000 posts, I have something as wonderful to report.

Oh wait, I did, and I didn't.

Oh well.

Hey, if you become a translator maybe you could implement the Polish mirror site of Hatrack.

How do you say Hatrack in Polish anyway?

It's not the bumping that gets 'em, EG -- it's the grinding.
