Well I would wait till the 7th to post my one year landmark, But I'll be in DC for Presidential Classroom and I don't think I'll have time to post at all. I've chosen to do a land mark on one year instead of 1000 posts because I feel that a post count just is a measure of how loud you are around here, not a measure of how much of a member of the Hatrack community you are.

For my landmark, I'd like to tell people about some of the events that shaped me into the person I am now.

My Family:

My Father was a roady with Metallic when I was born, and my mother was a stay at home mom with my older sister. I was born on June 4th 1987, my older sister, Tori, died on june 27th 1987. She died from spinal meningitis. My dad was on the road when I was born and was scheduled to come home in July. So he didn't meet me till he came home for her funeral. My mother sank into a deep depression and from that point on, so I didn't get the normal holding, cuddling kinda thing that most baby's do. I mean It wasn't like I was neglected, I got all the basics, just not a lot of love... That lasted for about a year, until my dad was in a position where he could bring my mother and I on the road with him. My mother got partially better, and then my 2nd cousin died. My parents were left in the will as my 3rd cousins (older sisters) legal guardians. So my mother and I rushed home to move them into our house. A week later, my mother realized she was pregnant with my younger sister. So i went from an only child, to a middle child inside of a week. My father stayed on the road till my younger sister started kindergarten. Before that, the only time in my memory that I spent any amount of time with him, was about every 3 or so months, I'd be flown to wherever he was that day, and I'd spend a week or two with him, during those two weeks, I was cared for by other roady's and the occasional groupie. All of whom showed their love/fondness of me more than I was used to getting from my mother. Then I started school and would only see him when he came home for a few weeks every 9 months. Any ways, so he came off the road and for a few years I had the closest to a normal family that I've ever had, or ever will have. Then Mandy, (one of my older sisters) got engaged during her and Beth's senior year. She was going to get married the July after graduation, and then her and her new husband, Travis, were going to go to IU, where both of them had been given full rides. Well Travis had his bachelor party on a party barge out on Lake Monroe, they were drunk, and he wasn't paying attention to the safety rules on pontoon boats. To cut out a few details, basically he fell off the boat and lost the left half of his head to the propeller. So Mandy got a phone call, at 9pm the night before her wedding, and was told that her husband to be, had fallen off the boat and was missing. 6 months later, Mandy drooped out of college and married Ralph. That marriage last 5 years. Ralph, last any of us herd, was wanted by the state police in relation to a drug charge (just so you know what kinda guy he was). Mandy now has 2 beautiful children. She is living with her significant other (the father of both babies), and has no plans for ever legally getting married. Now back to Beth, She went to Bradley University, and got a Bachelors in Education, specializing in foreign language. She got married right afterwards to Doug, a fat slim ball who we all said acted like he never wanted to leave his parents basement. Well we were right. Doug, managed to empty the apartment while Beth was working an 8 hour shift. Beth was served the papers the next day. Beth now is using her education at steak'n shake as a store manager. She is married to Beto, who speaks no english, only spanish, and they are expecting their first in April. My younger sister is searching for her place in life. She quit dancing at the IU Ballet department after 9 years (2 of which on point), and is trying her hand at acting, but unfortunately she is too shy to act, and spends most of her time working on my crew. Mom is counting down the days till I move out (she restarted the count for after I graduate, instead of when I turn 18... which buys me another year). Mom spend most of her time trying to make life as good as she can for Ana (who she has subconsciously replace Tori with). My Father works 50 hours a week on a slow week, and sometimes up to 100 hour work weeks. I see very little of him, and the only encouragement I get from him is to not fallow his path, to not go into theatre, to find another profession that allows me to be what he has never been, a good husband/father.

Wrestling:

Wrestling was the first outlet that I found from my troubled life. I loved it, and I was good at it. Well I wrestled for 6 years, I won ISWA (Indiana State Wrestling Association) State tittle 3 times for folkstyle, once for Greco-Roman, 4 times for Freestyle, and place 8th and 2nd at Freestyle Nationals. The last time I wrestled was the time I took second out at nationals. In the Semifinals I had a really bad match. I'll spare you the details, But the end result was a long list of injury's. For me, 6 broken ribs, 8 crushed bones in my foot and a stress fracture to my spinal column. The other kid wasn't so lucky, you see, after all those injuries, I was running on pure adrenaline. I got behind the guy and I locked him in a bear hug and suplexed him. Severing his spinal cord just below T10, and putting me ahead by 4 points (the move is worth 5 points). He passed out instantly, and I collapsed a second later. of course i withdrew from competition, but I still placed 2nd.

Friends:

Well I have to say, I don't have a lot of them, but the few I have, are family as far as I'm concerned. There are many of my fellow Hatrackers who are on this list, but the friends who I"m going to mention are RL friends. There is Mamma K, who hates the tittle, but has earned it. Then there is Marry Ellis, who is my "baby sitter", but she has more bad ideas than I do. there is Fiona... who is amazingly amusing. There is Shani who put up with dating me for a few weeks and introduced me to Hatrack. And there is Jack, who I swear has got to be legally insane.

Well, Now that I've told all of you about me, I'll let you ask questions as you might, or just silently read and move on... Either response is acceptable to me.

Wonderful landmark, it tells lots about you, and good to know. Sadly I can't think of anything to ask

*blink*
I used to wrestle to a national standard in high school, and even competed in the PanAm games when they were held in Indianapolis. And while I saw a number of people get injured on the mat, I never heard of anything like this. A qualified ref should have stopped the match immediately after your own injuries, which should have been obvious. For that matter, your move -- a back suplex -- was absolutely illegal in high school matches in my day, for precisely the reason described. It would have resulted in an immediate disqualification. (IIRC, the suplex, the salto, the full nelson, and the East German leg ride were all banned in amateur wrestling in the '80s.)

It was Freestyle... A lot of moves that are absolute no-no's in folkstyle... are fair game in freestyle... also in freestyle short of blood on the mat, bones protruding from the skin, or a win, they won't stop the action....

Your freestyle must be a lot different than my high school's freestyle. Or the freestyle seen on the Olympics for that matter.

But no matter, happy landmark.

Honestly, the things I do to get newbies on to the forum... [Wink]

Just kidding. Nice post Tyler. I didn't know some of that, so I learned a few things as well. [Smile] Happy year (minus six days) anniversary!

Wow! That's got to be discombobulating to a kid. [Angst]

Good landmark.
Have fun in D.C.! [Smile]

I figure as soon as I both
A) have an occasion for writing a landmark &
B) have the incentive to actually write it
..so I'll forever sit back, watch, and applaud others for their stories.

*applauds JT*
