My apologies, Kathleen.

I'm not familiar with protocol here. I should have asked.

No problem, Maccabeus.

If I could figure out a way to let everyone know, and be sure they would read it, we could avoid such problems.

I'm still working on it, though.

Heh. Why don't you just create a thread that outlines general forum guidelines, call it "Read Before Posting", close it, and lock it at the top of the page?

There may be something we can do. (There are instructions for people to read before they get this far, but I don't know how many people read them, so I hesitate to add to them.)

The problem with just creating a thread and locking it is that a regular thread won't stay at the top of the page and as time passes, it will not show up at all (the software only shows the postings in the last 45 days unless you specifically tell it to show more).

I'll see if I can figure out something that will work though.

Hey, by the way, what is the Tried and True forum all about?

As long as I'm asking, what do you think of the following riddle?

What do the following words all have in common?
Jabberwocky
Word
English
Affirmative
Gallicism
Noun

Can you add any to the list?

The Tried and True forum was for people who had been in groups that fizzled more than once or twice.

It was a variation on the volunteers idea, where they'd put the first thirteen lines of a story up and ask for people to read the whole thing.

They'd have to read and comment on three stories before they could ask for volunteers on another story.

It worked for a while, but then fizzled, eventually, too.

Is it okay if we use it to get crits on story fragments or such like?

You want to resurrect Tried and True, Survivor?

Maybe we could change the name to something like Fragmentary Feedback, and let people use it to ask for volunteers to comment on stories, as well as a place for discussing story fragments and problems that are blocking writers?

Tried and True was a good name, 'tis just that no one ever actually posted anything in there. But if you want to change the name, then I would prefer Fragments and Feedback, or Feedback on Fragments, to Fragmentary Feedback (though I don't doubt that much of the feedback would indeed be fragmentary...).

I think that having a place to post a snippet of text along with an explaination of the author is trying to accomplish would be nice, though.

Well, "Tried and True" certainly doesn't fit as a title for such a discussion area.

(People did post there at the time, but I cleaned out all the posts because it was so long ago.)

"Fragments and Feedback" sounds okay to me, but I must insist that they be fragments in the sense that no more than 13 lines are posted.

I'll see what I can do about setting it up.
