As it states on the cover of Shadow Puppets and I quote The sequel to the New York Times bestseller ENDER'S SHADOW end quote. Now I have read all of the Ender and Shadow Works by Orson Scott Card thus far...But I noticed that in only the first few chapters of Shadow Puppets it seems(sp) that Shadow Puppets is NOT a sequel to Ender's Shadow but it is the sequel to Shadow Of The Hegemon. Is the cover simply a typo or did Orson Scott Card throw a twist into the fold for observant readers to discover??

It's probably a marketing ploy (and it's technically correct, since SHADOW OF THE HEGEMON is a sequel to ENDER'S SHADOW--a sequel to the sequel is also a sequel, after all).

What goes on the cover is something the author usually has very little control over.

I thank you for you posting I'm just getting back into this...But what I don't get is why they just don't state it's the Third instalment to Ender's Shadow it makes more sence to me in all honesty.

What evil lurks in the hearts of cover designers and publishing marketing department people?

I'd guess that someone decided that the book had a better chance of selling if it was pushed as the sequel to ENDER'S SHADOW (which may have sold more copies than HEGEMON).

<shrug>

I don't know the numbers. Usually only the bean-counters do. And they don't always tell.

Shadow Puppets is a sequel to Ender's Shadow just as, say, Return of the Jedi is a sequal to Star Wars. It's not the immediate sequel, but it is a sequel.
And I would think that Ender's Shadow did indeed sell more than Hegemon; Ender's Shadow would have all the EG fans buying it, but some of them would have been turned off for reasons best known to themselves. Few people will buy Hegemon, too, if they haven't bought Ender's. New readers might have bought Ender's but not wanted to buy Hegemon.

Well I must say that the posts that you have given me has really helped open my eyes to reasons that I thought were a little wierd to in my opinion... But they do make alot of sense now that I think of it how you are thinking(didn't make much sense did it). Well I hope that you all might also beable to help me with a few small books I've been working on.. No real title yet but the Publing company I sent one to said that if I revised it a little they would publish it under my assumed name Vincent De Lafeyete.
