Well, I must post, especially since John did. I finally finished the first draft of the my first novel. After two and a half years and approx. 109 thousand words, I'm there!

Who knows if it'll ever get published, but I'm thrilled because this is the first significant writing project that I've actually finished. Not that it is finished since I already know that I' ve got a lot of editing to do and this is only volume 1 of what is looking to be a trilogy.

I mostly just lurk around here, but thanks to all of you for the vicarious support, even though you didn't know you were giving it. Just knowing there are others out there struggling has been an immense help.

Thanks!!
Dave

That is fantastic news, and you're right -- published or not, it's a tremendous accomplishment.

So kick back for a month or so (or even start another project), and celebrate the fact that you're done. Then, hopefully not too hungover, go back to the manuscript and start chopping it into tiny little pieces, like Jason with a Chainsaw. Show no mercy!

Good luck!

Way to go, man!!!! It’s feels great---doesn’t it?? Hopefully since you spent two and half years on it you shouldn’t have to much of a problem editing it. It’s definitely an accomplishment and certainly something you can take great pride in. The everyday person, probably hasn’t read 109,000 words in the last two and half years much less wrote that much. Congratulations!!!!!

You said first draft—-are you planning on actually writing another draft or just heavily edit the first?

Congratulations!! It takes a lot of determination to stick to a story for that long. I hope you do succeed in publishing it. Good luck in the perfecting stage!

I've been writing for over a decade now, and I have yet to finish even the first draft of a novel.

So big congratulations! Getting just this far is a great accomplishment.

A journey of 109,000 words begins with an opening sentence. Congrats indeed.

Thanks to one and all. It is funny that I don't feel more of a sense of accomplishment, but in some ways that is because I have been within the last 2000 words for over a month. There is also the fact that I know that I have a LOT of editing to do.

It is nice to say that it is done. It would be nicer if it were really done, and even nicer to hear that I was getting a 50K advance for publishing it. That would be really nice and I'm hoping that in the next two and a half years it could happen.

Thanks everyone!
Dave
