Some time ago in a thread I saw someone giving a recommendation for a short story reference book. I can't write short fiction. I need help. Does anyone have a suggestion for a book which will help me understand the philosophy of short fiction writing? Thanks.

Yes! I'd recommend 'Making Shapely Fiction' by Jerome Stern. Although most books on writing are pretty useless, this one is laid out in such a way as to actually be useful. It's also pretty humorous, I gotta say.

KDW, thanks! I recognize those two and remember them now since they were in caps in both posts.
I'll also check out that other book, Troy. Thanks for the reference.
