Here are the recently finalized guidelines for my writing group's contest (The Writer's Group of The Traid, based in Greensboro, NC). Feel free to pass it around anywhere you think folks might be interested.

OSC was the final judge for the short fiction last time, so I was really happy to get him to do the poetry for me this year. Our fiction judge this year (P.T. Deutermann) is a member of our group, with 10 suspense/thriller novels to his credit since he started writing in 1991.

Please note that we're not looking for submissions until the first of 2006. I just wanted to give everyone a heads-up. The thing I'm most excited about this year is that I got our board of dirctors to make the necessary arrangements to publish an anthology. That way it's not just the top one or two people winning money, but a the top ten writers in each category having their work published. And all of the published finalists will receive a free copy of the book.

Guidelines are as follows:

The Fifth Greensboro Awards
for Poetry and Short Fiction

Guidelines

$500.00 ~ Poetry First Place Prize $500.00 ~ Short Fiction First Place Prize

Plus, publication in an anthology for the top ten finalists in each category.

Send two (2) copies of each story.

Entry Fee: $20 for a group of five (5) poems; $20 for each short story. Entry fees for submissions sent from outside the US must be in US funds/money order/bank draft/ or cashier’s check. Make all checks payable to Writers’ Group of the Triad.

Is there a genre requirement for this contest? Is it sci-fi/fantasy, or will any old genre do?

Unfortunately, because of a variety of problems (some internal to our organization, some external (like a corporate sponsor pulling their $2,000 contribution toward prizes), we've had to cancel the poetry portion of the WGOT's 5th Greensboro Inernational Writing Awards. Disappointing, to say the least.

Please note that the fiction portion of the contest will proceed as planned.
