Hi,

Having just completed a manuscript and a first round of edits myself, I know that it's time to enlist the help of a more seasoned pair of eyes to take a look before I start shoveling out the query letters. Question is, outside of the feedback of the first 13 from our forum, are there professionals that can help with editing a novel? What is the best way to go forward?

I don't know if there are any legit professionals who would look at a manuscript for you. If you have any friends or family who would give you an honest opinion (you know, something besides, "Dude, you're a really good writer. I like it.), that's usually the most useful route to take, I find.

I would suggest going to www.critters.org and put in a Request For Dedicated Readers (RFDR) submission. It'll take a month or two to get up to the top of the list, and you'll have to critique short stories or novel chapters (I say *have* to, but it's actually a really useful thing to do as far as your own writing skill goes). But hopefully when your time comes, you can find someone willing to critique your entire novel, for critters credit (1 per 5000 words).

Thats how I got my novel critiqued all the way through by an impartial stranger some months back.

Thanks to you both, I've enlisted one family member and I'll check out the critters site.
