What's everyone been up to? I found myself with a lot more time to work on projects!
Currently I'm workiing on a revised outline to my book, and kicking around some ideas for a short story I'd like to write while I'm up in Ontario in three weeks.

I was vacationing in NYC when the outage began, on an internet diet and a short writing hiatus. Got back and found my semifinalist's critique from WOTF in the stack of mail. After a few days creative block from not writing, I began a story inspired by my time in NYC.

It's amazing what you can get done when there are no distactions. On advice given here, I decided to scrap most of everything I've written, and I started again. In a little less than three weeks, I have written the first 76,000 words of a re-write of an old novel. I'm hoping to be done end of May with approx 120,000 words.
That was the plan anyhow, before Hatrack came back (but I am happy it's back!)

Well, I crossed eighty thousand words in my novel, then broke off for about a week's vacation ending Sunday. (Long-planned trip---Florida to Atlanta to Charlotte to Atlanta to Florida. I don't take a computer along---I did take my old typewriter but only used it to write postcards with.)
Glad to see things up and running again---it wasn't earlier this morning.

Thanks for being so patient, everyone.
From what I understand, Robert, someone had managed to create some kind of program that made it look like spam was originating from the Hatrack forums.
So they had to shut things down until they could clean out the server and put in protection of some kind.
Also, I was out of town all last week, and I wanted to be back home to oversee things if they got it all fixed before I was home. So that added a bit to the length of the outage.
(Went to the tip of Washington State's Olympic Penninsula and got to try my hand a "deep sea" fishing.)
So, welcome back, everyone. It's good to see you all.

Agree with some of the others - this outage has been great for my production in writing, wonder if another outage can be arranged next time I'm in a writing slump - just kidding of course. It's great to have Hatrack back!

Yeahhh!! Hatracki's back!
I didn't spend so much time here before that not coming made a huge difference. I've continued to ping this site morning and evening but otherwise, things are moving along as usual.

I see there are a lot of "pages" of notes missing. I guess they were not saved in backup.
My friend and I wrote ten short fun stories in a month. We have eleven and twelve in process now with a thirteenth plotted out. No they are not pubishable, just post-able.

Yeah, I checked in pretty much everytime I was online. Can't say it gave me more time to write, 'cause I would likely have churned it out at the same rate, five hundred words a day, like I try for every day...
Never thought of looking in at Liberty Hall, though...

I didn't notice much difference because I don't spend all that much time here. Didn't notice an appreciable change in Liberty Hall, but I don't spend much time there either. Still, I lamented the loss and cheer the return of Hatrack Writers Workshop.

I wrote a few short stories that are now floating around in cyberspace, waiting for their rejections.
I'll finish the recent draft of my novel later today (only have 8 pages to go through). That'll be just in time for our vacation.

I personally found a DVD with every Amazing Spider-Man comic up to 2006, so I couldn't touch the computer without reading a few. So anyways I barely found time to internet at all, much less write. Of course the Hatrack being down gave me time to look for the thing in the first place. I'm happy to see it up and running, If only I could think of the question I had for you guys.
I wonder if Mr. Whithe had anything to do with that.

I checked the site religously everday and am so glad it is back up and running. This site is one of my only escapes from work. Selling insurance was not how I planned on making my way through life.
While the site was down I had no time for anything per usual. I am a first time parent and my son is only 10 weeks old. This leaves me about just enough time for a couple hours sleep before I'm off to work again. For some reason my boss frowns on writing stories while at work. I'm still writing but...prolific I am not.

I've gotten away with this for two reasons. I either write when no one is around, or I write in a manner that could be easily excused. For example, write all your chapters as e-mails to yourself. Just make sure you don't hit the key combination for BACK, and don't close the window. There is no auto-save, and no warning that you will lose information. I would send the e-mail to myself, then hit reply. Close enough to save if you do it enough. The other way I do it is to send my word attachments from home. I write what I can, then send it back to my e-mail in attachment form. This works if no one is around your computer and you delete the file once its back in your e-mail account.

Oh, good idea. Most corporations now make backups of all email traffic, so if you lose your work, you can just call IT to restore!!
That, and if you make it bigtime, the IT guys will find all your work and the company will demand your royalties or even your copyright. You did the work on company time and assets, therefore, the work belongs to the company.
Don't laugh. It happened.
Never EVER run a business using company assets.

I'm glad the forums are back too. I literally just finished "Empire" about 20 minutes ago and wanted to see if the forum was back up yet or not.
(BTW) I don't care what ANYONE says, that was a dem fine book, and a great story! I was surprised to find it as cheaply as I did so soon after it's release, and then found out it had been pulled from a public library in Miami and sold at a book sale to the guy I bought it from. After reading it, I can see why someone would have done such a spiteful thing. Superbly done, Mr. Card! I just wish people weren't so fanatically political as to not see that it's just meant for entertainment. Lucky for me in this case, considering that we're broker than the Ten Commandments and I've been itching to read this for months! I plan on having a lot of the book worms I know devour this one. Great book, and an exciting read! Good sentiment in the afterword, too! I sincerely hope the opposition to you isn't nearly as bad as it sounds like it is.
Liberty Hall wouldn't exist at all except for the inspiration supplied by Hatrack and the people here. I'm so glad you're back.
Kudos to Kathleen and the gnomes for getting it all back up and running again.

I know the difference between work e-mail and personal e-mail. The only e-mails that go to and from my work e-mail are work related. I use hotmail for everything else, which doesn't end up in IT.

Whew! I had almost given Hatrack up for dead for awhile there.... aparently she's been up for a while now. Back to the grindstone, as it were.
I haven't spend much time writing, mostly editing my novel and reading. I'm currently on Kostova's The Historian. Excellent, thus far.
