I just stayed up late and watched “Meet Joe Black” on HDNET. It’s probably the fourth time I’ve seen it. There are few movies or books I find quite so intriguing and yet so disturbing. I always think that all mass media is at least potentially subject to influence by those that forsook their original positions, but none so flagrantly at this particular piece. It seems to me to be an argument for understanding, an attempt at justification wrapped in exaggerated fiction. I don’t buy it. What is ours is ours! It was meant for us… not them. What was theirs was theirs and I doubt it was less. Some thieves just want their cake and eat it and have you believe they were deprived in some way.
If you know life and love you got more than you deserve, the rest is a gift from someone who only wanted to see your smile, someone who only wanted to teach you what real love is.
Jude nailed those crooks down 2000 years ago, and his words have lost no power or meaning.

If it ever pops into your field of view, you might want to take a look at the old movie it derives from---"Death Takes a Holiday," 1934, starring Frederic March. I don't know if "Meet Joe Black" is a straight remake or a bounce off the same idea.

It's been years since I've seen that movie, and I was so wrapped up with drooling over Brad Pitt that I just don't remember anything else. Yes, I can be very shallow.
