May, 26, 2008 Did You Write?
,
If you look around, you may well have seen a crack in society where you are at. It is not something that one can repair easily. It takes a lot of work. Work from whichever worthless sob that dragged society to a stop because he did not write this week.
I have a confession to make. I was the one who did not write, even though I had two days to accomplish the act, and therefore I am causing the downfall of society. My dragging society to the depths I have taken it, caused the cracks and fizzier that you are seeing today.
I consider writing, any new writing, of course. Editing, even if it is someone else's work. Poetry, newsletters, blogs, articles and writing assignments. Writing could also be E-mails, as long as it is long, and has something to do with writing. If you think it is writing, I have to say that it likely is.
I ran behind this week on my story ideas. I missed a day when some wood working projects I mailed out, arrived at the house of my writing partner. She called to thank me, leaving me unable to write my story ideas for the evening. On Sunday morning, we talked again about characters, plots, life and other things. She has a nice voice. I intended to write two story ideas that morning because I knew I would get home late and not have time to write. The phone call killed that plan.
Monday morning, because we had the day off at work for the holiday, I sat down to write, to catch up. I write a woodworking diary each weekend day where I tell about what happened that day, what projects I worked on. I never had the chance to post the Sunday woodworking diary either. I sat down early morning today and wrote two story ideas and a woodworking diary, and posted them on line. I wrote one tonight. I keep a copy of the story ideas in a file on my computer, with all the story ideas. It was only when I was adding to that file that I realized I mis counted on my story ideas some how. tonight's story idea was number twenty seven, rather than the twenty six I expected. Tonight I am a story idea ahead because of a miscount. I could have did some real writing this morning if I had counted right!!!
As it is, I missed an opportunity, but am one story idea ahead for the year....

I just did a count of my story ideas in the compost pile next to my keyboard. Last week, I reported twenty six story ideas waiting to be posted. Right now, I have twenty five story ideas in the compost stack, and I posted eight story ideas this week!!!! I do love that. When I run into the expected blank mind when it comes to story ideas, I can outlast the blank period with comfort.

I had a family weekend. On Saturday, Mom made me rearrange the shed that I keep my woodworking supplies and tools.
Sunday, I was at my brother's house with nineteen other people. He and I, along with a friend, made some attachments for a wood cutting tool- a boring bar we made early this year. Once I get everything set up, I will be able to make even more sawdust on my woodworking day. I did learn something about machining metal.
Today, Mom and I went to the new National cemetery in our area to visit Dad's grave. We did some running around on the way home.

As to the question of the day. I have to hang my head in shame and say NO I DID NOT WRITE.

Did you write?

Aye! ReWrote. Reasearching a Historical Fiction novel (which might have a short-story prequel). Critiquing. Letting my WOTF cool before reDrafting that.

Took some time to unwind from my vacation,...then pulled myself together to write a thousand words on Friday...then had to suffer through going back to work for two days...and then pulled myself together again and wrote a thousand words yesterday.

All on the same story, too, which is probably two or three thousand words from being finished. I'll probably let this one lie there for a while...meanwhile, I've still got another one I want to start second-draft work on.

I wrote. Character sketches, worldbuilding, and outlining.

I did not write. Not even the edits and critique I was supposed to be doing. *hangs head in shame* I get more done on a slow day at work than I do in three consecutive uninterrupted days.

I picked it up today, though!

The young adult novel got a workout.

I worked on my blog entries. They count.

I researched a few topics. That definitely counts.

I even attended to a few non-writing issues along the way.

It was a good week.

And I even remember some of it.

S!
S!...C!

I polished up my short story (well, I guess its now a medium story at 41 pages :-P) a little before studying for finals. Freshman year of college is coming to close.
