Is there a way I can (for free) get my hands on a copy of a WOTF winning entry, or at least a finalist? I'd like to get a taste of what kinds of pieces have had past success. My current WIP is about an idea that I find intriguing, it's definitely an "idea" piece, but it doesn't feel compelling until the middle or end, which wraps things up nicely. But the first half is smooth if only mildly interesting... but that might or might not fly.

Boris Layupan's Ra-Gho-Zu was up recently at Critters. It has been through at least six versions there over the last several years. It was a semifinalist in Q-2/08 WOTF and therefore received a judge's critique. The most recent version is post-WOTF critique. It's also been up at Clarion. The rest of the winners and published finalists are in the anthologies. Seaching from the lists of winners and titles at the WOTF site might uncover accessible online publications, but I've not attempted that research, instead, opting to buy several of the anthologies.

I'm not aware of anywhere you can get it free. You might get lucky and get it cheap at a used book store. On the other hand, you could just buy it. It's pretty cheap and the winners get royalties so you'd be supporting them.

I was a finalist(but not a winner). You're more than welcome to read either my finalist or my semifinalist story. Just drop me an email.

Aren't a few of the anthologies available in your library?

Borrow from your library! Inter-library loan if they don't have any copies, and make a request with the acquisitions department to acquire these anthologies.

I picked several up for a couple of dollars each at a used book store.
