Did you write? 04-13-09?

It is that pesky question of the week again. The question is to prompt you, and me, into writing something each week. Sometimes it works, sometimes life gets in the way. The object is to either tell about your writing, or be shamed by admitting you did not write. It is also a place to tell what else happens to be going on in your life.

What is writing, is largely up to opinion. We will not agree. I don't even agree with some items on my preferred list, but list them anyway. They are writing so they do count.
Any new writing, of course, is writing. EDITING IS WRITING! Even if it is not yours. Few if us can write perfectly the first time, and some of us cannot get it right after a score of passes. Poetry, article writing, blogging, writing assignments world building if something gets on paper, E-mails if they are extremely wordy and involves writing. This list is not comprehensive, and more as suggestive. I am sure you can come up with others.

AS for me, I must sadly say that no, I did not write. I did have one opportunity and did not take advantages of that. Oh well.

My week was busy. I spent a lot of time putting things away from the art show. I had to re-price my pieces as they were just too high now. I also came to the conclusion that I LOVE their money much more than I like My wood. I am pricing accordingly. I brought my best pieces back to the Antique shop for display. I just now realized one piece I wanted to take to the wood turning club meeting this week, is down there. Darn. Oh well. I will show it off some other month. I am also a day behind on my story ideas and will end up two ideas behind on the wood turning club meeting night.

I have had a good time in coming up with ideas. The pirate event on the seas gave me two ideas, one I wrote tonight. Neither will be good, but will fill some spots. Lately, I have written several such ideas. it cannot be helped. Not all will be blockbusters. Some have to fill a space for a day.

As for the question of the day,
NO, I DID NOT WRITE

DID YOU WRITE?

I did. Not as much as I wanted to. And not on Book Three. I'm starting to think it's time to put Book Three on the shelf for a while to ripen. If it's fighting me this hard, there's probably a reason. I think I'll try to finish polishing up Book One, swallow my heart down out of my throat, and send it out. Or at least send out a query or two. Then I'll either work on the first real revision of Book Two, or go away from these characters entirely and work on Dreamer's Rose.

I wanted to have a draft of all three in case I wanted to go back and make small changes to the first two to support things in Book Three. But that doesn't look like happening right now. And it's probably time to stop playing with Book One before I beat it to death.

Look for me posting a synopsis and query letter in the Fragments and Feedback section, hopefully soon.

I've also spent some time this week working on short stories set in the same world as the trilogy. I think I'll keep working on those, too. The flash didn't quite work out, but I'm starting to get some ideas for it that could work at, say, twice the length. That's still really short for me. So, we'll see.

Did I rewrite? Yes.

Crits came back on a piece that forced me to reevaluate the entire story. I rewrote it in a different POV, hacked it down, and now have to build it back up. Good for the mental muscles.

Much to my surprise, as soon as I wrapped up one writing project(see last week's thread), another idea appeared. I wrote about two thousand words (some notes plus the opening scene), scattershot over the week when I had the time.

Several characters appeared unbidden in my mind---I had the story but didn't even realize they were there. I think this might be turning into the start of a novel...I'm hopeful...

I did some editing on my WOTF piece and outlined a new novel.

Yes, though I spent more time on critiquing. I need to give my stories more quality time this week.

I mainly concentrated my novel's outline this last week. Since I need everything outlined I focused on getting the events organized into a logical order.

Another problem I had this last week was doubting some of the story elements. For example, I felt one element was not explained well enough and that I could potentially lose credibility. That was a down moment. However, the next day I had an idea to explain the element so I'm back on a high.

Right now I don't know if I'm moving forward with this outline or making things worse. I'm sure it will all work well in the end but this is the type of Writer's Block that I experience.

No I didn't.

But I have a really good excuse - I promise!

Does my wife having a baby and all of us moving into a new house all within the past week give me a temporary reprieve?

I don't know, does it? Lol, it would be a reprieve from yourself.

Congratulations on the baby...AND the house!!!!!!

Congratulations, Jaz!

Yeah, Jaz, congratulations on your distractions.

No! No excuses...just teasing. Congrats on baby and house, Jaz.

I am shamed this week. I did not write nearly enough, but I did manage to finish working out the POV issues on my novel. Now I have to go back and fill in the holes (there are a lot).

Thanks everyone. Hopefully things calm down soon and I can get back to working on it.
