I'm preparing to send my application in and I feeling completely unable to judge which of my stories to use. The application asks for the first page, but I can't get past the fact that I know the rest of the story.

So. I'm looking for some volunteers to read the first page of some stories and, essentially, vote.

Any alumns who have words of wisdom would be especially welcome.

How many are there Mary?
I will vote, (but I like your stories so the results may be a little skewed ).

Um...is five too many? I mean, it's not like you have to read the whole story, just one page.

Thanks. I've sent them over. I'll tell you, looking at just the first page like that really keys me in to some trends in my writing.

If you need another opinion feel free to send it over. After Mike's Marathon, I wouldn't mind a 100 metre dash.

Thanks Robyn Hood. I think I'm okay.

So, voters, Some Other Day made it to everyone's top two, but you all paired it with different stories, which was kind of interesting.

The stories aren't about tapeworms, are they? *asks in a worried voice*

It was a 63 word story!!!! I'll never live it down. Never. never. never...

Why haven't these stories arrived in my Inbox, Madam? I feel slighted.

Oh, my god! Is MaryRobinette a Slighter? A Slighter slighted the Offender?

*runs for cover*

MR, presidents have lost office for fewer than 63 words. Behold the power of flash!

Mary,

Having read some of your other things, I'd say you have no problem. I wouldn't over-stress it. Just drop it in the mail. All will be good!
