Welcome to June, all.

Ready for a new month of word counting?
10k's the goal, putting the daily average count at 333 words.

Question for this month:

With the longer, sunshinier days, do you write better, say, in the bright mornings... or do you find yourself outside more and the writing takes a back seat?

*

Rules:

New words are - One word after the other. Blank words on a white page. From imagination to fingertips.

Rewriting an old story counts if the page is blank.
Flash. Short story. Novels - all count toward the total.

Blogs count.

Outlining doesn't count. That helps speed the word count later. (Which is a good thing.) But counting an outline would kind of be like counting the same words twice.

Editing doesn't count. Editing is part of the process and is done independently of word count.

*

My May was lopsided. Almost nothing early on, then a short story burst, a flash fiction, then the final week or so I hammered out just over 8k on my novel.

I'm hoping for a more even keel month this time.

Now, on to June!

I'll be re-starting work on Lavender, probably Monday night, so I'm in. I'll go for a straight 10k.

Okay, Monday night turned into drinks after work. Tonight is unlikely, but tomorrow is my day off. I will restart Lavender then.

Irina, WOW!
That's nuts.
You'll have a double June. [Smile]

I'm limping along, but I figured as much with all the editing I have scheduled.

Still, having the goal of 10k makes me work hard to get some new words in there...

Now that I've finished chapter 13 on book 3 and edited it at least 3x, I can move on to ch 14 and get some words in. I dislike heat and it's warming up in Oregon, so I do a little gardening then when it gets hot I spend the afternoon inside typing. I have been typing out all the scenes in my head starting with where I'm at and going on to the end. Need to know which ones are important to the story and which one's can be weeded out --- which I think mean's I'm working on an outline and the 3-4 pages I've written don't count :-(. So, I'll push on to 14 for some real words and report back! KT

Roar!
2509 TODAY.

Shades of IRWhite... Well, like 1/5 of a shade.
Still, that's one of my most prolific days evah.

Needed a big day, too.

Although I've written around 2000 words in critiques and story reviews this month. I'm not sure if I should count those going forward.

It's not new fiction, but it means I've been reading, and I have to come up with coherent writing.

What do you all think? Reviews and critiques? Yes or no?

I've been working on my Q4 WotF entry. It won't leave me alone mentally, so I figured I'd better write it. I'm hoping to finish it with enough time to get back to my novel and meet my 8k goal. I'm gonna need another 2500 day, me thinks...

Irina,
I don't mind leaving word count disciplines up to the individual. However, your separation sounds good. If writing for an audience, it counts. So, a review, posted online, has a sort of fiction quality to it. It's meant to inform and entertain. However, a critique is solely for one person.

I suppose I'd count my reviews at the end of the month if I needed a few hundred more words. [Smile] But hopefully my stories alone will carry the 10k. Especially this month because I'm doing well.

Erg.
Yesterday I stared Q3 in the face and said, "I'm not entering."

Q3 stared back at me and said, "What about this story here?"

So, I said, "Too short." in my best Tyler Durden voice.

The story, however, stayed on the porch until I doubled it. Seriously. 2100 words became 4200 words - today.

Irina,
Could you totally hear him say that? He says "too young" in the movie, but close enough.

I should have figured you liked FC. [Wink]

So I'm good this month a few days early. Which is good because I'm scrambling to prepare for my vacation next week. (Which means next month will be extra challenging.)

Added 2360 to the novel, reaching my 8k novel goal for June. Yay!

I'm glad to have overshot June. Although the extra words don't roll over, I'm happy about overall progress.

I'll be away the first week of July. It'll be cram time when I get back. Next month truly will be a challenge.
