The Critters workshop organizer, Andrew Burt, was so impressed by my article on openings that he's decided to publish it electronically (A 60 page e-book, currently #24 in How-To-Write-Fiction book category sales on Amazon.)
I used a "brute force" approach to my analysis, studying over 1,400 openings from the "Big Three" magazines and compared them with Critters' openings. The goal was to make conscious what the pros do unconsciously when attacking the problem of an opening. I then acid-tested it by re-writing dozens of Critters' openings and the feedback was good.
