Epic Saga is a publication that a friend of mine tipped me about. They specialize in printed anthologies. They offer a few copy of the anthology as payment as well as a share of the royalities, personally I think their expectations on sales is lofty but at the very least you'll get a publication credit with a book, that will have your story in it, as proof that you are a writer.

The editor, David Fitzpatrick, has informed me that he is ahving trouble filling his Green Sox and Red Monsters anthology. The anthology ask for speculative (that's sci-fi, fantasy, and horror folks) fiction that are about the Boston Red Sox's. Can't do it, you say, because you know nothing about baseball and even less about the Sox? Nonsense! That will stop no writer worth their weight in salt. The Red Sox is an organization with a rich history and extraordinary characters. Here's a few ideas just off the top of my head. You are welcome to run with them.

The Great Bambino Curse -

Babe Ruth (surely you all heard of him) was a Red Sox early in his career. They traded him to the New York Yankees for trinkets and jewelery worth $24 (or maybe that was the sale of Manhattan? I don't remember...). Anyway, the legend says the foolhardy decision leveled a curse on the Sox. It took 80 years for Boston to break that curse. You could write a fantasy story about fictional character who broke the curse so the Red Sox could finally beat the Yankees. A million ways you could run with it.

The Great Rivalry -

No fans hate each other more than the Yankees and Red Sox. I'm imagining two fans taking that hatred to levels yet unseen. Imagine two soldiers, surrounded by the enemy, and guarding the most important thing (as in anything that you can think of) ever. All they have to do is put their rivalry aside - and they can't do it. Total annihilation is preferrable to chumming up with the worng type of fan.

The Green Monster -

It's the right field wall at Fenway Park. Named because it is very tall. Make the Green Monster a real Green Monster and have fun with it.

The editor is close to closing this down. He's had the call open for two years, received a pile of submissions, and has yet to accept one for the antho. It seems writers have a hard time following guidelines. Part of the proceeds for the project is supposed to go to the Red Sox's charity cause (no, not booze and women for the players. It's a real charity). I told him I could find a couple of sharp writers to contribute - so don't let me down!

Please let me know if any of you show an interest in this project. I'll let the editor know real submissions will be on the way.

I also see that the publisher has an open anthology for speculative Maine fiction (my home state), that he had hoped to have completed in 2010!

I have a WIP that may suffice, but I find it odd that this anthology (and many other) are still listed as "unfilled" after so many years.

Again, LD, thank you for continuing to find so many potential markets for us.

Respectfully,
Dr. Bob

@History.

Query the editor. That's what I did. He'll appreciate it and give you an update.

I forsee a time traveling Mets fan going back to change the outcome of the 1986 world series. With his team trailing by four runs with two outs and nobody on base, he orchestrates an unbelievable string of events to change the course of history so his team can win!

I did.
He hasn't--yet.

That is so uncanny... about six months ago I started a spec-fic story that takes place in Fenway Park. I never finished it, though. I was planning to tackle it again soon for the upcoming baseball season.

Still haven't received a reply to my query. Perhaps the site is defunct.

I hadn't heard anything from him either, Doc. He sent me a very quick response from him with my first query. I answered it and nothing.

Maybe he checks his email once a month and I hit him on the right day the first time.
