Write a short story in order to submit a novel??? That sounds weird (suspicious)!

I didn't look closely at the terms because I don't have any short stories that would fit (and my last attempt at a short story turned into an 85,000-word novel).

However, the judges, including David Farland (Dave Wolverton) certainly sound legit to me.

Would anyone be interested in forming a writing group for the contest? I think the contest sounds fun, looks legit, and would be an awesome opportunity. I always loved the Dark Crystal and remember fondly watching it as a child with my father and brother. Now my boys watch it. I would be stoked to add to that.

ETA:
Okay. Obviously, David Farland is a judge for the other contest LD posted.
