Hi all

I've been gone a while but since I am to rejoin the ranks of the employed (figuratively speaking) on Tuesday, I'll probably be around once again. What have I missed?

But seriously, I am of course back with a question.

Background: I sent 5 chapters of a novel (& synopsis etc) to a publisher at the beginning of August last year. I rang them in December due to blind panic - had it arrived? did it slide under someones desk? - and they were very nice, explaining the delay and saying they were waiting to hear back from some of their reader, which sounded promising. They said they'd probably be in touch before Christmas. And since then I've heard nothing.

Question: Should I ring them again?

R

Take the publisher at their word. If they said before Christmas and it's now almost March, contact them in the way they prefer. If that's phone, then give 'em a call.

Just tell them that you are checking on the status of your manuscript.

One thing to do next time you send out a manuscript is to include a self-addressed postcard. They'll drop that in the mail when the package is opened.

I've had excellent luck keeping track this way, and an additional benefit is that a postcard is easily filed for log purposes.

Thanks Alynia - it's a good idea.

I gave them a call and its still waiting in the pile to be sent out to their readers. It's both good and bad news - I was kind of hoping after 7 months that it at least would have been read (as they'd said before). Confused, confused and SO stressed.

I'm a bit of a stress bunny, in case no one had noticed.

Time to try and focus on other things, I think.

Thanks again
R
