Okay, i know this sounds wierd, but I've got to know - how long after you cut a finger off a guy does it take for the tissue of the amputated finger to die?
It will all be perfectly clear after my next first 13, which could possibly be as early as tonight. LOL you guys - you're the only one's i could ask! That I could ask and would actually try to come up with an answer for me!
Die as in not be suitable for replacement on the finger or die as in not be viable for DNA traces or other bio-medical uses.
If you want to re attach the finger, then fingers that have been severed too my understanding have a "shelf life" of about 6-24 hours with current medical technology.
However if the use is for non re-attachment and provided the finger has not been subjected to chemicals or other things that will mess with current abilities to deal with DNA the "shelf life" is quite long, reaching months, decades and centuries depending on what tests are being conducted and how the finger was stored.

die as in hacked off, at room temperature, cells stop working. No attempt to sustain or preserve. nothing to do with DNA or attempting to reattach - I should have specified, but i was so caught up in my plotting ideas, I never went there. Tissue degrades to unusable very quickly at room temperature. I believe the detached appendage needs to be iced immediately, within 10-15 minutes of detachment. If the appendage is cooled quickly then I believe it is viable for up to 24 hours (my source is too many ER type show on History and Discovery channels, not a medical degree).
I also had zombie finger immediately pop to mind, followed by the awful remake of the Hand with Michael Caine.
around 25-30 minuts. at least for a turnincot. that is what we learned in CLS Combat Life Saver. or as i like to call it advanst first aid. Rommel Fenrir Wolf II

I saw a news report yesterday, involving the reattaching of a foot severed in an amusement park ride. Only thing was, the accident was over a week ago. (I forget the exact dates.) Was there another amusement park accident? (I knew of one other recently, but it didn't involved severed feet, just death.) Did my mind garble the details? (I wasn't paying that close attention.)
Could a foot last that long unattached from the body? I don't know...

every one in my PLT knows i know my s#$^ when it comes to first aid. and everyone knows what to doif i go down. Put a cigerett in my mouth, light it, give me a weapon and ammo and leave me there to die. what if the werewolf was a medic in the army? or even better a 21B combat engeer like myself. well i have tryed to write about a werewolf army engeneer before when i first got to country, but with lack of time and such i have put it off for a while. he basicly didnt tell anyone what he was until he ran out of medication that perbvented him to change. but when it ran out he started to take on whole comipany sized elements by himself. and he was amun to silver. for he was a genitic creation by a genitices who wanted to make legen fact. Works for me, as an idea. Some of the best stuff I've seen on werewolves or vampires involved putting them in untraditional settings. It'd take a terrific buildup, though...all that "how did he get to be a werewolf?" stuff spliced together with "what's a werewolf doing in the army?" Also some "how did a werewolf get to be an engineer?"

well 21B combat engeneers like myself in afghainstain and iraq do route clearence. looking for bombs in the road. we also do demo and min fealds. 21C are bridge bilders. they build briges and potrol rivers.
21J is horzontal engeneers. they build roads.
21H veritacal engeneers build structers. they also opperate heavy equitment.
then there the SAPPERS any engeneer can become a SAPPER. basicly the engeneer equivlent to the Ranger.
all army engeneers are part of the CORPS OF ENGENEERS.
I should also add that I also smoke cigars, pipes, hookahs, and (blunts when I can.) But that would be some medic; someone goes down he turns him into a Lycan if the injury is bad enough. Rommel Fenrir Wolf II
