The Trailer is here.

Edited to admit this is wrong. I was not of the mind to make a sound judgment at the time I came upon this.

It's a fake.

It's a montage from other films. There are shots from the other LOTR films within it.

The Hobbit will be two films, both directed by Guillermo del Toro. Smaug will most likely be in the second - I'm guessing they will divide the movies either around Gollum and Bilbo's escape from the Misty Mountains or around Bilbo entering Smaug's Lair. The first film is due to be released in December of 2011. Rowan Atkinson has been chosen to play Bilbo. Hugo Weaving will reprise his role as Elrond and Andy Serkis will be Gollum again.

Rowan Atkinson as Bilbo, I think, was an April Fool's prank.

That's good news, Troy. Thanks. It was the only info I could find on Bilbo - and I was slightly horrified. The article seemed very convincing in del Torro's and Jackson's discourse, however, and I didn't check the date. I thought they must know something that I don't.

Yeah, I had less than an hour sleep, and thought there was a Smaug scene in there. Ah well.

But, you might enjoy this low-budget fan film, called The Hunt for Gollum. Does this make us square?

Originaly the plan was to have the entirety of The Hobbit as one film, and a second film made up of content from teh appendices of Lotr and take place in the gap of time between The Hobbit and Fellowship. Recently they changed the plan and are going to split the hobbit into two films and drop the bridge film.

Unfortunatley there have been a few snags regarding the movie rights so no filming has taken place yet (or concrete casting for that matter, though Serkis, McKellen and Weaving are supposed to return as others have mentioned). Del Toro, Jackson and Walsh are still working on the scripts last I heard.

ign.com has a good selection of articles following the production history and woes for the project.

Y'know, I wouldn't put it past them to put something like this out...I mean, this one's a fake, but I could see somebody, in whatever movie corporation is responsible for the thing, putting together some offcuts from The Lord of the Rings and putting it out just to remind people that The Hobbit is still out there and coming along someday...

I love how they put "real" so you know it is.

They also spliced parts in from video games. I'm pretty sure that dragon comes from Rein of Fire. Del Toro is known for his attention to the visual, if nothing else I think we can count on really pretty smaug.
