This is kind of a simple one but as a person who hasn't submitted to many places, it's on my mind.

I know that one is supposed to underline when wishing to italicize something. Should I be italicizing those underlined words as well, as to not ocnfuse with actually wanting something underlined?

Just underline.

And note, there are occasional markets that actually want you to italicize instead of underline so remember to check guidelines. When in doubt, I agree with Meredith - just underline.
