It's that time of the week again, time for the kick in the pants. The idea is that having somewhere to report progress will spur you on to make some. So I'm posing the question to all of us here. Did you write this week? As we have been reminded in the past, writing for the purposes of this thread can mean just about anything you want. You did some editing? Report it here. Outlining, pre-writing or any other kind of prep work? Sure, that counts too. And, of course, writing new work always counts.
I'm now up to 16 out of 24 chapters done in this first round of editing on Where The Ether Flows. It's turning out well, I'm just wrestling with my impatience the whole time. It is, however, possibly tweaking my outline for the next book. That's okay, because I was already planning on going through that, as I think it needs work. In the meantime, I'm trying to focus on Ether Flows. This is all part of the process, right?
I've had a couple of new ideas smack me upside the head, one of them very hard. I told Saul he'd have to wait his turn, but he's still grumbling in the back of my head. I see this one is going to be difficult. *sigh* Notes made on both of those ideas, plus more work on several more that are in development stages, I keep turning myself back to editing. I'll get there.
Also, a few blog posts and possibly too much time on twitter. I'm trying to keep it down to short bursts when my brain desperately needs a break from editing. I'll let you know how that turns out after I've been doing it longer.
So, I put the question out there for everyone, did you write?

Ha! Not only did I write, I got two (2) rejections in the last three days. *polishes fingernails on shirt and sniffs disdainfully* I'm starting to feel like a real writer.

Yes! I wrote 13,235 words this week! (Not counting last Monday.
Good job, rcmann! I may not be there yet, but I did finally get an outline done on my WIP. So far, it's just been haphazard writing.

I didn't say how much I'd written on THE BARD'S GIFT. Just that I'd written. It certainly wasn't any 13,000 words!

30,000 words, or thereabouts. I just finished the first draft of a trilogy. I'm writing three books together. They total 250,000 words. 150,000 words in seven weeks.

@Owasm: I think you win the volume award hands down. I haven't even gotten to 30,000 words total on THE BARD'S GIFT yet.

Twice on my work novels about thirty minutes each. My tall fight scene in one has started but the two of them are frozen probably about fifty feet off the ground until the weather cools down.
Worked on my alchemy-steampunk story. It will be considerably shorter than I thought it would be but the in-between scenes I couldn't think of most probably aren't needed.
Started a new UF tale. This one is Rural Fantsay though. My MC just moved to a Farm in Central Calif. Before he gets all the way settled he has a battle with two Princes of Faerie. Not sure if this one will be a novel or a series of short stories.
Did a crit, some E-mails, posts here and on two other forums as well as two HERE .
I think that is all the writing I have done. Had a good day Sunday, medium day Saturday but not so well on the others with my writing time being hijacked.

Yep. Past week was good. Finished 3 seperate short stories, one was an old one that I fianlly pulled together, and submitted. Although another of the onese I thought I had finished has now left a bad taste in my mouth, so have pulled it back for another week of rewriting. But yes I did.

Last week, I started something rolling, but hadn't gotten far with it...then, Wednesday aftenoon, I had a dream involving the two main characters, and on waking up, I could put together the middle and end of the story, where the characters came from and where they were going, and (most important) where the story would end. I wrote a couple thousand words before things got busy at the end of the week and I couldn't get back to it right away.
Good ol' subconscious. It always comes through for me...

Well, it was an overblown version of the solution, but it told me that (1) I needed to get my two main characters away from the main location and other characters, and also (2) the reason why they were going away. Everything else (motivations, character insight, plot) just fell into place.

Robert, I usually get my best ideas while driving (with the radio off) or blow-drying my hair. I have had some good ideas while dreaming, but not often. It helps to have my mind relaxed, so it can work in spite of my usual messy thinking!
I did write this week. Added a scene to my novel (about 1100 words) and then padded other scenes to make them more meaty. I received rejection number two on my SF short story, "Summer Snapshot". The opening is currently getting reworked in the "Feedback for Short Works" forum. Where to submit it next? Any suggestions? I've tried "Asimov's" and "Fantasy and Science Fiction". Time for an on-line venue, I think.

The subconscious works in mysterious ways. Back in my Internet Fan Fiction period, I was once washing out some shirts in my sink, and between one wringing out and another, an idea popped into my head, complete and exact. I had the whole thing written out before the end of the day---and I hadn't even been thinking about a story or that particular idea before that point.
(Even stranger---it was a Christmas story, and the idea popped into my head on Halloween...)
