The first thirteen of this story I put up was an experiment with the "dramatic" introduction of the character. This is opening I'm pretty sure I want to start with.
Years after I was banished, I heard of a man who pulled a spear from his chest with his pierced heart still beating on its tip. The story had become legend. It told of a man who'd been cursed by the gods. He was said to have angered Ereshkigal, Goddess of the Underworld, by not accepting her advances. As punishment for a mortal insulting and embarrassing a god, the Goddess slew the man's wife and declared she would never allow him to enter Kigal, the underworld. The man was to spend the rest of eternity alone, never to join his beloved wife in the afterlife. There was but one chance of redemption for the man. It was said that he would earn his passage into Kigal if he were to be able to present Ereshkigal with a certain flower.
