About the end though, I was pretty let down. I felt like we had spent all 660 pages of this dramatic tale in Mary's head, so I was flabbergasted when, at the critical moment of Anne's execution, we don't hear A THING! Gregory gives us a purely cinematic description of the actualy beheading, and then Mary is running to the ship with her husband, and then the book is over.
Now I understand that perhaps Gregory didn't want to get overly melodramatic, but come on now, not a single emotion? What gives?

Now this book was really fantastic. I started reading it on a flight and didn't have a chance to finish it until my return flight home, two weeks later and I was desperate to read it!
