Though I have been writing SF and F since the age of 13 (30 years) I rarely finished, or submitted anything. I am 120k+ into my first SF novel (90k-ish will survive my edit) and I recently "got published" for the first time! A short story in a non-paying e-mag =)
I (I'm starting to sound like Sisyphus, but that is the nature of introductions) have recently been considering the idea of accumulating publishing "creds" before submitting my science fiction magnum opus, by writing one other fantasy novel and a bunch of YA fantasy stories first. The reasoning is that the SF story is a serious "book deal" type series, and having notches on the belt may be wise prior to asking for the world =)

It's nice to know I'm no longer the novice around these parts. Welcome to the treehouse, as they say, and something else about a sprightly, temperamental unicorn. Your guess is as good as mine.

And first one to say you came to the right forum. Nice friendly people who know a think or three about writing and don't mind sharing.
do be careful when you explore the treehouse though...fun place with moving rooms--sounds like The Weird and some Fey Mansions and the Nightside--and changing scenes.
Hey what?? You old guys thought I was going to mention some mythical animal or some such?? Me?
