So for the last three days I've been getting the error "Disk Space Low". The error generates an option to clear up stuff on your hard disk by compressing files. Failing that, it takes you to add and remove software and lets you go wild. So I cleared up about 100mb the first time, about 250 mb the second. Well it's back again.

Since that time my computer has been running even slower than usual. So I figured "if my hard disk keeps filling up without me dling anything, I might just have a virus. So I go to AVG to dl their trial AV software. Immediately upon trying to install it I get a message that "updates" are ready for my computer and it's restarting. If I don't want to restart now, it will try to do it again in 5 minutes, and again and again until I do restart.

Well since I'm in the middle of dling antivirus software I figure now might not be the best time to restart my computer. So I finish dling, install it, and...

IT FAILS! It won't install on my computer, no matter how many times I try.

The question is, does this all add up to a sinister self-protecting virus, or is this just Windows bs making my life miserable? To be honest the way I feel about Windows, I wouldn't be surprised at either scenario.

Well, you will want to make sure you have enough space on your hard disk to install the AVG. If you have already verified that you have enough space, then.... did you try restarting the computer?

I am not a hardware expert. Nor am I an expert on viruses. Since we have been e-mailing frequently for the chapter exchange, I did check my system. McAfee ran a complete scan, including e-mail files, early Friday morning and found nothing. Which doesn't prove anything, but . . .

I've never had a disk space error. (RAM errors, yes. Especially with certain games. )

My first thought is when is the last time you ran a defrag? It's possible that you freed up the disk space but the computer can't use it effectively because it's too fragmented.

I would run defrag, if you haven't. Restart the computer (which, for some reason, seems to clear a lot of errors in Windows just by itself). Try again to install the anti virus software.

Good luck.

Well I'll have to bid you all adieu for a bit. The virus has spread to the point where attempting to free up memory triggers an error message. I can't download an antivirus or anything else, and it's only a matter of time until my computer crashes.

Thank god macs don't have this problem. Now if only I can get internet to my parent's guest house...

Anyway if you don't see me for a bit this is why.

I haven’t a clue were 30Gigs of space went on my hard drive. I think its all the F(@&!^$ vista updates my computer keeps downloading even though I tell it otherwise.
Its like a message will pop up “New Vista updates available” I click do not download. Well when I turn my computer on the next time it shows downloading update 1of3 time remaining…
I relay hate updates.

If your sneezes lash out and snatch hold of your neighbors...you might have a virus.

If the sunlight burns only the backs of your eyeballs...you might have a virus.

If you've got more tissues in the wastebasket than Walmart has stocked...you might have a virus.

If you feel like you're walking through an invisible layer of mud, and each cough seems to ignite mining explosives in the back of your skull...
