This is one of my new characters from Protocol. I thought I'd see how you interacted with her.

Hey, as you know, I'm Rachel. Now, I know what you're thinking. 'She's just going to say she's an ordinary girl who falls in love with a strange boy.' That's not the case! I thought I was ordinary--until I met Michael. Apparently, he escaped from a scary science facility and is on the run from the scientists there.

I was ordinary when I met him...or was I?

I soon found out that I can dream (or see) a few minutes into the future and that I can transfer my strength to other people like me and like Michael--Subjects.

Apparently, there are a lot of people like us in the world. Soon, we meet Shawn Cleary and he seems to be like us too.

This whole situation is terrifying and yet, it's thrilling. It's weird. I feel like I'm actually enjoying the...adventure. I've always played it safe and by-the-book. Now, all Hell's breaking loose and I am diving headfirst into it. As long as Michael is with me, I'm not as scared. I feel like he will--no, he can--protect me. I guess you could say I like to be able to trust people.

Anyway, that's a little about me and my situation. Any questions?

Risky. Sounds like whatever put Michael in the scary science facility might be infectious. And there might be no going back.

What has Michael told you? Do you think he told you all he knows? Or has he held back info on the situation, or about himself?

Well, he didn't tell me much of anything. He just gave me some money to hide him from the scientists. And I mean A LOT of money. He obviously wasn't interested in killing me (although he did threaten to kill me if I didn't help) otherwise, I would have been dead already. I definitely don't know anything about him other than his Subject name--Subject 735.

It sounds strange but, he has an air of truthfulness about him. I honestly feel like he's a scared teenage boy running from some bad people.

Maybe I'm too naive in thinking that...

The "bad people" might tell a different story---look for evidence, say, something on the order of "These people are trying to kill me!" But they might have reasons, one way or another.

All I know is that they run tests on people like Michael, and like me. I've experienced that once, but it didn't hurt. They only said that they were trying to reproduce a chemical that we make. Supposedly it has been replaced by another chemical in the body but it doesn't react the same to the tests they do. The head doctor said that if they could reproduce it in everyone else, humans would have a limitless future. I worry about what people will do with the kind of abilities we have. Not only that but, I don't agree with the methods of scientists.

I don't really know if they have an objective other than that. They have good intentions, but I think they're a little twisted. It's like Michael said, they become obsessed with finding out more about the chemical and how it reacts. Eventually, it consumes them and, as Michael puts it, 'they stop caring what it does to you.'

I've seen how he looks when he thinks about Protocol. He's terrified. A guy like Michael--well, you just know that he doesn't get scared easily. That's another thing that worries me. I don't know exactly what kind of tests the scientists do on their Subjects.

It's a lot to think about and a lot to consider. I'm trying to make the best decision with the information I have until I can obtain more.

One can judge by their deeds---if Protocol has done something to you, or attempted to do something, something that's genuinely frightened you, that would be a good basis for mistrust. But the same applies to Michael.

The scientists didn't disclose the reason behind the test they did on me, nor did they explain what was going to happen during the test. That did scare me.

It's obvious to me that Michael has reasons not to trust them. I haven't asked him more about it because he refuses to talk about it. He merely says, 'you don't want to know.'

Do you have reasons not to trust them or Michael? Or perhaps you have reasons not to trust both?

I do have reasons not to trust the scientists. They haven't told me anything and yet, the other Subjects haven't denied that the scientists experimented on them.

As for Michael, he hasn't given me a reason not to trust him. Everything he's told me up to this point has been true. Then again, it's possible that I let my attraction to him get in the way of logic.

It's tricky. But you're saying that the difference between trusting and not trusting comes down to, say, washboard abs and a mane of hair you want to run barefoot in...would you have given him the time of day if he'd been three-foot-six and covered with warts?
