I finally get to post something here, and I didn't even submit a story to a magazine, at least not on purpose.

When the story is published I will release more information about the magazine.

Fantastic! Many, many congrats!!

Though I'm sorry to hear you won't be attending Boot Camp.

So, does this mean you've officially "graduated" Hatrack?

I hope to still participate and probably will still ask for critiques, at least sometimes. I mean, it is one thing for a literary giant to like my stuff, but it is another to send it to him without any feedback. After all it is thanks to F&F that my first page was good enough for him to request the rest. So a huge thank you to everyone here. This is a valuable site.

Congratulations! That must have been quite a shock to have it get side tracked from an application to a publication. Definitely post us a link when it's published.

Ditto to all the above!

Autumn,

What a wonderful and encouraging response! Congratulations.

I gather that OSC had actually said that Boot Camp wouldn't be helpful to you. Is that right? If so, speaking as a Boot Camp survivor and subsequent Writers of the Future winner, I'd like to respectfully suggest that he may be underestimating the value of the course.

Frankly, I feel that even the majority of F/SF writers who are making a living from their writing, were they able to approach the situation with an open mind, could benefit handsomely from working with OSC. This only makes sense: he's an excellent writer who has a rare ability to understand what it is he's doing and a similarly rare ability and passion to convey that to other people. Further, different writers have mastered different tools; even a writer of OSC's own caliber could benefit from swapping ideas with him, says I.

So if you're passionate about improving your writing and can get there, and if OSC has room for you, I'd like to suggest ignoring his advice and going to Boot Camp. Having talked to dozens of Boot Camp grads and gone there myself, I can guarantee that if you go in with a desire to improve your writing, you'll never regret the trip.

Actually he told me he definitely didn't think I could benefit and specifically that he didn't want me to go. He needed the slots for other people. But it is not all bad news. I'm just not able to talk about the situation on the forum yet, until the information goes public. But I'm pretty happy with the way things turned out.
