Just got a nice letter from Dr. Schmidt tonight, telling me he is buying "Outbound" for ANALOG SCIENCE FICTION & FACT.
"Outbound" was my Q1 Finalist for WOTF vol. XXVI and I am so thrilled beyond belief that "Outbound" has a professional home now. Especially one so well-regarded as ANALOG. I was hoping so much, and tonight, I got my wish.
2nd pro sale too. Two months after getting word of my WOTF win. Novelette length, too, which is saying something considering I am not a Name and this is one of the digests. Not bad for a newbie in the biz, if I do say so myself. (grin)

Wow. Let me be the first to say, congratulations. Very nice work. On your way to immortality.

Congrats on both sales Brad.

kudos...that is going to look hot on your WOTF Author Bio

Yeah, hard to believe I got the score, so soon after the WOTF win.
Do I think my WOTF history helped me get out of the slush and get Stan's notice? You betcha! I don't think I'd have made it with Stan if I hadn't had the Finalist(s) and the win. So never give up on the Contest.
And yes, Joni will need to update my bio. (grin)

Woo-hoo!

Thanks, all! Yeah, feels like a very important sale. Important market, important second success so close to my first, and best of all -- from the viewpoint of my wife the Business Manager of the house -- important money.

Congrats Brad!
Did you submit it after the WOTF win, and if so, did you mention your win in an intro letter?
Posted by JenniferHicks (Member # 8201) on :
Whoo! Great sale. Congrats.
Posted by Brendan (Member # 6044) on :
So, published twice for the same story? Or didn't WOTF publish it?
Posted by Brad R Torgersen (Member # 8211) on :
Yes, I mailed it to Stan *AFTER* I won for Q3. And yes, I mentioned the win, and that judge Dave Wolverton liked it very much.
No, it's not a double sale. My Q3 winner is a different -- but somewhat similar -- story.

Since he's hasn't yet come 'round to mention it, I will...Outbound is out, in the November 2010 issue of Analog. Pick up a copy.
Posted by snapper (Member # 7299) on :
What did you think of it, Robert?
Posted by Robert Nowall (Member # 2764) on :
Haven't read the body of the story yet. Did not like the first line.

Congratulations Brad.
We just received our copy of Analog. I'm looking forward to reading your story. You're on your way. Keep on pushing.
Posted by Robert Nowall (Member # 2764) on :
Yup, I read it, just this morning. Pretty good. A couple of quibbles, but that's neither here nor there...and, really, this isn't the place to bring them up.

....I got a $245 check in the mail today, because they're exercising the clause for an anthology. It appears this story will be in a ten-year retrospective e-anthology from Analog, to be published on the Kindle. W00T!

Outbound was a great story and is anthology-worthy. Double congrats. Sounds like drinks are on Brad!

Congratulations! That's awesome.

NIce one, Brad. Another plump fruit from the 'Outbound' tree!

Mazel tov, Brad! And thank you for hanging around the Treehouse as an inspiration.
