Just received my first letter from an editor that didn't make me want to pull my hair out! My nonfiction piece, "Welcome to the Rock", was just accepted into a book about various subculures. My topic was hockey fans, particularly those who support my local team, The New Jersey Devils, who, for those familiar with sitcoms but not sports, were the team Elaine's boyfriend, David Puddy (played by NJ native Patrick Warburton), dressed up to support in the Seinfeld episode "The Face Painter".

Thanks everyone. And snapper, that "published" bit does make everything feel more real. I feel like a legitimate writer now.

I know the feeling, EP. You can to your grave knowing you accomplished something in your life. It is such a noble feeling that you wrote something that someone liked enough to want to put it in your book (and perhaps, pay you to do so).

It is a very unique feeling as well. I can compare it to two other noteworthy events of life.

For golfers, it's similar to making your first birdy. Not an easy task but truthfully you are likely to get lucky when you make your first one. Selling a story requires a larger degree of talent over luck.

For parents, it's similar to watching your child make their first steps. Sure, you heard plenty of couples rave about the event when you were single and thought... Big whoop-te-do. Another human being has learned to walk. That makes only 6 billion... but experiencing it for yourself makes you realize just how remarkable the event truely is.

Published Author. Let that sink in. If it comes out in print, the feeling will stick with you everytime you open the book.

Ain't that right, Mrs Woodbury?

Except for the New Jersey Devils part (says the life-long Capitals fan)...congrats! Sounds like a book I might be interested in.

Then you get credit for not being part of the Ovechkin bandwagon. As for myself, I can semi-proudly say I rooted for the Devs back when they wore the Christmas colors more than once a year. Pre-Marty days, my friend, and it could get ugly. I'll certainly post more info when I get it.
