Unexpectedly received a generous check for the story today. Not that the amount mattered, but it reminded me that sometimes someone may actually enjoy what I write. Having been in a slump lately, and semi-frustrated by my many other obligations, this was a nice nudge and a noodge to write something new again (and perhaps be more diligent in submitting what I've written and not stop after the first rejection).

Dr. Bob

Very cool!

I can't imagine getting paid for having written. [Smile]

Nice. And yeah, keep submitting those stories until they sell [Smile]

Nice work Doc. I am not at all surprised to find out someone likes your writing enough to pay you for it. You're good.

Ok. Well, that was very kind of all of you.
Now you've got me all inspired to write again!

...after submitting to the publisher the final photo selections and their notations and writing the back cover blurb for my mother-in-law's Holocaust memoir; and helping my daughter on her term paper; and completing my exam for Sports Medicine Imaging....>sigh<.

Dr. Bob

Congratushoggoths.

I feel compelled to mention that with one single exception, every story I've sold had not less than ten rejections before selling...most considerably more (and the one exception was a story I wrote specifically for a particular anthology and that was the only place I submitted it.)

Good Shabbos, Merlion.
With the length of my more recent tales being 10K or greater, there are not more than ten (or even three) potential markets for them.

"Shoggoths", huh?
I've always wanted to write a story with a Lovecraftian critter, if I could think of something original to do.

Respectfully,
Dr. Bob

Well, lengths like that can be somewhat limiting...although if you branch out into semi-pro it's a little better. And even I, who produce mostly stories in the 3-6k range, find it a bit annoying how many places wordcount limits that are, or slash them down to, somewhat silly levels (Washington Pastime for instance just went from 6k to 3k...right now I have about 2 stories in my inventory at or under 3k.)

I've never directly used a specific Lovecraftian creature either...I invent my own using similar design specs...indeed one of the "areas" of my Universe of the Nine Roads is a wacky incomprehensible Lovecraftian dimension.) Someday though I should do something with specific Mythos fiends...
