I've been thinking about subscribing to Locus, but I'm not quite ready to shell out the $50 for a year's subscription . . . or the $30 for six issues.
Does anyone here subscribe to Locus? Is it worth the money . . . and the time spent reading it?

I often buy it at Borders to read the interviews if it is somebody I'm interested in. The rest is book and magazine reviews, who-sold-what-to-who-and-won-what-prize gossip, genre bestseller's lists, and con coverage. I don't find the content overall to be worth the sticker price if I'm not going for a particular interview, so I haven't subscribed.

Hey Balthasar,
You've started hanging out at Zoetrope, haven't you. Ha! Now I know your real name.
Otherwise, you have an evil twin that is making the exact same post.

Well, I have been hanging out at Zoetrope, but Jerome Vall is not my real name. Sorry.
I did, however, steal the question and decide to ask it here. I've been wondering the same thing for a while.

Dang. I felt so clever there for a moment.

I grab Locus at the newstand sometimes, usually when I've dropped by an SF bookstore and I'm not sure what to buy. It's interesting, and I'm sure if I start publishing seriously and or getting more into the community I'll start subscribing, but for now I'm not. I figure once I need to subscribe, I'll be able to write it off on my taxes.
